SaharaReporters confirmed that the Italian, whose identity was yet to be unveiled, had been kept in isolation after coming in contact with many people before being detected of having the virus.
Meanwhile, traders in China Town said that though no Chinese individual in the complex had been diagnosed or suspected of having the virus, measures are already in the place to curb the spread of the disease through the use of protective measures.
Speaking to our correspondent, a trader who identified herself as Mrs Sylvester, said that Nigerians were afraid of coming to China Town to purchase goods.
While she stated that the information was inaccurate, she urged government to thoroughly screen people coming into the country.
“We do not really know who has it or do not but we are taking measures.
“Chinese nationals coming into the country should be thoroughly checked before allowed to leave the airport.
“Due to the virus, people are no more coming in, they are scared of Chinese people. Buying goods in China Town has become a taboo while the government deports them.
“China Town is very dry, people are scared and it is affecting Nigerians selling goods in the market.”

Another trader, Mr Godwin, confirmed that since the news of the virus went viral, traders in China Town had been experiencing poor sales.
He blamed poor sales to misinformation and rumour by the people.
“In China Town, we are calm because most of the Chinese that travelled have not returned, that means this place is free of the virus.
“It’s true that the virus has been affecting our trade as there had been serious decline.
“Some people were misinformed that the Chinese here had the virus but it is purely fake news.

“People fear a lot and work with incorrect information.”
Meanwhile, Michael Chidom, a cloth seller at China Town, attributed the low patronage at the complex to economic issues and not the outbreak of the virus.
“I won’t say the decline in customers coming here is the virus, I’ll say maybe it is ‘pocket virus’ that is affecting the people from patronising us, not Coronavirus.”
He however, urged the government to intensify screening of travellers coming into the country to control the infection rate.
Another trader, who introduced himself as Badmus, stressed the need for the government to do more in curbing the spread of the virus in the country.
“Government must ensure to keep us safe. We need the government to do their part to keep people safe from this virus so that it won’t spread to plenty of people as it is doing in China.”
According to data from Worldometers, the official death rate of people under 50 years old was only 0.2 per cent.
China has recorded over 78,191 cases of Coronavirus and more than 2, 000 deaths.

BREAKING: Government Shuts Down Lafarge In Ogun State, Arrests Man Who Drove Italian Infected With Coronavirus To Lagos After SaharaReporters Story

The Nigerian Government has shut down Lafarge, a cement manufacturing company in Ewekoro, Ogun State, after an exclusive story by SaharaReporters on Friday.
An employee of the company, who drove an Italian infected with Coronavirus with an ambulance to Lagos for medical attention, has also been arrested.
A clinic situated inside the cement factory has also been shut down while staff are currently locked inside a room after fears grew that the Italian had been in contact with many persons in Ogun State before being rushed to Lagos for medical help.
SaharaReporters had earlier given exclusive details of how the Italian found his way into Nigeria aboard Turkish Airlines on Monday, February 24, 2020 around 9:40pm as against February 25 claimed by the Lagos and Nigerian governments.
The Italian is said not to have shown any signs of being infected with the virus at the time of his entry into the country but developed fever and body aches the next day when he visited Lafarge at Ewekoro, Ogun State.

He was thereafter taken to the company’s clinic that evening and was placed under observation while the Ogun State Government was notified of his situation.
The decision to move the Italian to Lagos was soon hatched following the non-existence of a facility to handle his case in Ogun.
According to findings by SaharaReporters, the ambulance used to convey the man to Lagos was not from the infection control centre in Lagos as claimed by the state government but from another clinic in Sagamu, Ogun State.
The driver, who drove the Italian to Lagos, was exposed to him for at least five hours and was not isolated or quarantined but allowed to go home.
As a result of this, he was also exposed to several other person and heightened the risk of the virus spreading further.
A source at Lafarge, a cement manufacturer in Ogun, told SaharaReporters that, “I am just concerned about the primary contacts.
“The man (driver) is back here now, there are no plans of taking him into isolation
“The health care providers were not also isolated.
“The driver was allowed to go home, claiming he didn’t break any protocol when he delivered the man.
“The company tried to smuggle the Italian out of Lagos by air by pretending that he had Malaria.
“There are so many persons that had been exposed to the index case and if these people are not found and quarantined, we could be in big trouble.”

The World Health Organisation has admonished people not to entertain fear but get accurate information on how to protect themselves against Coronavirus.
Nigeria recorded its first case on Friday in a patient, who recently returned from Italy, one of the countries worst hit by the infection apart from China.
The global health organisation had earlier listed Nigeria as one of the high risk countries for the virus.
However, head of the organisation, Tedros Ghebreyesus, called for calm, saying the outbreak had reached a “decisive point” and has “pandemic potential”.
“It’s what’s happening in the rest of the world that’s now our greatest concern,” Tedros said.
“We are actually in a very delicate situation in which the outbreak can go in any direction based on how we handle it,” he said.
“This is not a time for fear. This is a time for taking action to prevent infection and save lives now,” he added.
