Corpse Of Top Official In Nigerian Airport Authority Found In Lagos Canal After Suspected Attack

Abdulrahman Musa

The remains of Abdulrahman Musa, the head of the electrical engineering unit of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) have been retrieved from a canal in the Ifako-Ijaiye area of Lagos State.
SaharaReporters learnt that his family last saw him alive on October 31 when he left his residence at the Agege area of the state for his farm in Ogun state, The Cable reports.

Abdulrahman Musa

The nephew of the deceased, Nuhu Momoh, said Musa’s wife had called on Sunday, saying that her husband had not come home and that his two telephone lines were switched off.
Though he dismissed her fears and told her he would come back on Sunday evening, the family began to search for the deceased on Monday as he didn’t come home on Sunday evening as hoped.
After a search in some parts of Lagos State, they found his car along Old Abeokuta Road beside Bola Event Centre at Ifako-Ijaiye. One part of the car was said to be inside the gutter, while the other part was on the main road, as witnesses believed that he was attacked and killed by yet-to-be-identified persons.
Recounting what eyewitnesses told them, Nuhu said: “We began to find traces of his movement and we found his car. It fell into a gutter somewhere along Old Abeokuta road beside Bola Event Centre, Abattoir along Abule Egba.
“When we saw the car, the eyewitnesses that saw the incident on Sunday evening came around to see us, saying they thought I was the man who left the car in the location, yesterday.
“I told them it was my brother. They said they saw what happened that day. You know that the area is full of street urchins who do not have a home.
“They said it was the sound made by the car when it fell that brought them closer to the location. You know I was not there.”
Nuhu further said eyewitnesses told them that his uncle left his car at the location and was walking in a direction that led to his house because it was a short distance.
While at the Ikeja police command headquarters, Nuhu said he received a call from the officers attached to Abattoir police station where the case was reported, saying that a body was found in Alaramino canal on Thursday.
He said “area boys” helped bring out the body from the canal, and they noticed that there were cuts on the deceased’s head and around his stomach.
Nuhu added that the deceased’s body was taken to the mortuary and that he would have been buried according to the Islamic rites, if not that the police were still conducting an autopsy. The deceased’s body would be taken to Abuja on Sunday November 7, and then to Okene, Kogi state, his hometown for burial.

Jigawa Ex-Attorney General Faces Trial For Diverting N7.7million State Funds

Sani Hussaini Garun-Gabbas

The immediate past Attorney-General of Jigawa State, Sani Hussaini Garun-Gabbas, has been dragged to court over an allegation of diversion of funds belonging to the state government for a Supreme Court case.In a suit filed before the High Court of Jigawa State by the state government, Garun-Gabbas is alleged to have collected N7.7million during his tenure as the state’s attorney-general, for the purpose of appealing a case at the Supreme Court but he allegedly failed to do so.

Sani Hussaini Garun-Gabbas

The writ of summon, dated November 5, 2021, seeks the court’s order to mandate Garun-Gabbas to refund the amount paid to him as there was no proof he worked on the case for which the money was paid. The former AG had served as the Commissioner for Justice in the state during Governor Mohammed Abubakar’s first term between 2015 and 2019.It was alleged that in April 2018, Garun-Gabbas wrote Governor Abubakar seeking funds to enable him appeal a case at the Supreme Court, arguing that the two lower courts erred in their judgments. His prayer for N7.7million for the purpose was approved by the governor and paid to the ministry on May 4, 2018.But in the suit filed by the state government, it was revealed that the former commissioner collected the money in cash and did not pursue the case as he promised. The state government seeks a “declaration that the claimant is entitled to refund of the sum of N7,700,000 (seven million, seven hundred thousand naira only) being funds to prosecute appeal at the Supreme Court of appeal in a State vs Idris Iliyasu Danlawan and one other, which was collected in cash by the defendant from the cashier of the Ministry of Justice and there is no proof that the funds collected were used for the purpose it was collected.”The state government prayed the court to direct Garun-Gabas to refund the money to the ministry for allegedly failing to fulfill the purpose for which it was meant. The writ directed Garun-Gabbas to enter appearance personally or through a legal representative within 30 days of receiving the court summon.

E2%80%99s-allowances-%E2%80%93 Anambra Election: Typographical Errors Caused Non-Payment Of Policemen’s Allowances – Nigerian Police Force

IGP Usman Baba Alkali

The Nigeria Police Force has stated that “clerical and typographical mistakes” are some of the reasons why some policemen deployed on election duty in Anambra State have not been paid their allowances. The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, on Saturday was said to have directed field commanders and strategic managers to compile list of the policemen who are on election duty in Anambra State but have not been paid.

IGP Usman Baba Alkali

This is as a result of the complaints of some police personnel over the non-payment of their allowances for the Anambra governorship election. There have been media reports of policeman attached to some Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state lamenting the non-payment of their allowances.
Anambra Election: @PoliceNG Officers Protest Non-payment Of Feeding Allowance#AnambraDecides2021 Follow live: pic.twitter.com/UK2lTkdID2— Sahara Reporters (@SaharaReporters) November 6, 2021

Over 30,000 police officers were deployed for the election which is holding across 21 LGAs in the state. In an interview at the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) situation room on Saturday, Force Spokesman, Frank Mba, quoted the IGP as attributing the non-payment to clerical mistakes in forwarding their details.Mba said over 29,000 of the personnel drafted for the election have received their allowances.“The IG has already given directive this afternoon that the field commanders and the strategic managers on ground should compile the names of persons who have not gotten their allowances and get all the necessary details correctly.“For the first time, we paid the money of personnel even before the commencement of the election. We deployed about 34,000 officers and as at noon on Friday, I did not check today. And I’m sure a lot more would have received their money today.“But we understand that there are some who have not received their money. These could be as a result of clerical mistakes in forwarding their details, it could be typographical mistakes; it could be any other type of mistake in communication. Because the way these allowances are worked out is that the contributing commands are supposed to send these details from their respective squadrons if they are members of the police mobile forces or from their respective commands.“Apart from that, it has to move from the office of the DPO to the CP’s office and then down to us. We are already working on that to find out why these few numbers have not received their money. But the reassuring message here is that we’ve got the money. There is no complaint about the availability of the funds. We’ve got these allowances and it is warehoused in the police account and not with the CBN.”

Passport Seizure: Court Adjourns El-Zakzaky’s N4billion Suit Against Attorney-General Malami, Department Of State Services To January

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned to January 19, 2022, a suit filed by the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat challenging the Department of State Service (DSS) and the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, over the seizure of his and wife’s international passports. At the resumed hearing of the case on Friday, Justice Inyang Ekwo adjourned the case due to the absence of the first respondent.

El-Zakzaky through his lawyer, Femi Falana, had approached the court to compel the two respondents to release their travelling documents and lift the “Red Flag” restrictions placed on their International passports. The couple is also seeking enforcement of their fundamental right to freedom of movement, and an order of perpetual injunction stopping the respondents from further harassment and intimidating behavior. In their separate suits filed on October 14, the plaintiffs said their passports were seized from them after they returned from a government-supervised medical trip to India in 2019.
Each of them asked the court to order the respondents to pay them N2billion, totalling N4billion, “as general and exemplary damages” for the violation of their “rights to freedom of movement, fair hearing and property.”El-Zakzaky and his wife were then standing trial at the Kaduna State High Court on charges of culpable homicide, unlawful assembly, among charges filed against them in connection to the bloody clash between IMN members and soldiers in Zaria, Kaduna State, in December 2015.The couple, who were freed of the charges with the Kaduna court declaring them not to have any case to answer in a July 28 ruling, said, in their rights enforcement suits, that the Indian trip “was supervised and controlled” by the Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the SSS.Following the Kaduna court’s ruling, the couple’s lawyer, Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), wrote separate letters to the NIA, the SSS, and the AGF, demanding the release of their passports allegedly seized after the Indian trip.According to them, they subsequently approached the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to verify the status of their passports “to enable them to travel for urgent medical attention” only to be told that “there was a restriction” placed by the SSS stopping them from travelling outside Nigeria.NIS officials informed them that their passports and other travel documents seized from them could not be replaced unless the restrictions were lifted and the passports released to them, the couple said.Their lawyer argued through their suits that the seizure of their passports and travel restrictions placed on them, violated their rights to “freedom of movement guaranteed by Section 41 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (As Amended) and Article 12 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights Act (CAP A9) Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”The couple said they were currently facing deteriorating health conditions since their released from custody.

#AnambraDecides: Electoral Body, INEC Extends Voting Time After Capturing Machines Break Down

Following widespread reports of malfunctioning Bimodal Voter Accreditation System deployed for the Anambra State governorship elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission has extended the voting time to 4pm.The electoral body further urged voters to remain patient as it assured that no voter would be disenfranchised.

A statement by the Resident Electoral Commissioner reads: “The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the period for opening and closing of Poll from 8.30am to 4.00pm. This revised closing time applies to areas where Polling Units opened after the commencement period of 8.30am. In line with existing regulations and guidelines of the Commission, any intending voter who is on the queue by 4pm shall be allowed to vote. All Polling Unit staff must comply with this directive.“The extension of time arose out of several field reports that voters have had problems with accreditation. The Commission is currently investigating the reason the accreditation devices, Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), have worked perfectly in some Polling Units, but not in others. In some of the cases, it would seem that this resulted from software glitches.“Our technicians have already built an update to the devise software to prevent further challenges. The update is currently being installed in the concerned BVAS and we request voters, candidates and agents to be patient and allow our technical staff to solve the problem. “The Commission wishes to reiterate that in cases of sustained malfunction of the BVAS, the Presiding Officer must inform the voters and polling agents that accreditation and voting for the affected Polling Unit shall continue tomorrow or at another time determined by the Commission.“With this extension of time and the recommencement of accreditation where the BVAS consistently malfunctions, the Commission assures that no voter will be disenfranchised.“Our deployment has also been adversely affected by transportation challenges in some locations. It must be noted that on account of security concerns, some of the transporters that were mobilised and collected 50% of their sign-on fee backed out at the last moment, leaving some of our ad-hoc staff stranded.“Also, some of the trained ad-hoc staff backed out at the last moment. The Commission is on top of these challenges and extant regulations and guidelines will be applied on a case-by-case basis.“Consequently, we are harvesting areas where voting will realistically no longer take place today, including places where substantial disruption has occurred, to enable a possible recommencement of voting at another time, in line with extant laws and the regulations and guidelines of the Commission.“We appeal to all voters, candidates, stakeholders communities and political parties to remain calm and law abiding. We assure you that the Commission is determined to a make all votes count.”

Nigeria’s Accountant-General, Idris Absents Himself From Wedding To 16-year-old Girl After SaharaReporters Exposed Secret Marriage

Ahmed Idris

The Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, has finally married a 16-year-old Kano State girl, identified only as Hussain, as his fourth wife, as earlier exposed by SaharaReporters.
SaharaReporters learnt that Idris married the teenager on Saturday but the Accountant-General absented himself from the occasion in order not to raise much publicity on the wedding, after SaharaReporters’ story exposed the top government official’s marriage to the minor.

Ahmed Idris

A family source told SaharaReporters on Saturday that the event which was initially planned for Friday was rescheduled to Saturday due to the wedding plans exposed by SaharaReporters.
The source said, “The wedding held today (Saturday); when they saw the news on Friday, they changed the date to today. The Accountant-General didn’t attend the ceremony.”
SaharaReporters had on Thursday exposed plans by Idris to tie the nuptial knot with the teenager on Friday at 274 Daurawa, Maiduguri Road in Kano State.

EXCLUSIVE: Nigeria’s 60-year-old Accountant-General Idris Set To Wed 16-year-old Girl As Fourth Wife On Friday

SaharaReporters had last month reported how the family members of the young girl kicked against her marriage to the Accountant-General of the Federation.
The family had accused Idris of luring the teenager with millions of naira.
A source had told SaharaReporters that Hussain’s family had kicked against the wedding but Idris insisted on marrying her despite being 44 years older than the underage girl.
Idris will turn 61 on November 25, 2021.
“This is our late sister’s daughter by name Hussain; she’s just 16, not long that she clocked 16 years old but it’s very unfortunate that a lady called Amina was the one that linked or brought the Accountant-General to our house in order to seek her hand in marriage.
“This, she did, knowing that this is a very young girl, what does that mean? It shows the Accountant General is just after that small girl to take advantage of her youthful age.
“Immediately I heard, I messaged him because when I was working with the then Head of Service, I had the opportunity of having his contact when we met over a serious matter about the country. So I messaged him on WhatsApp regarding his wedding; I sent him my picture, that of my son, my late sister and the daughter, Hussain. He replied that it’s a small world which confirmed the wedding was true,” a top family source had confided in SaharaReporters.

Family Kicks As Accountant-General, Idris Secretly Marries 16-year-old Girl As Fourth Wife

The family source added that the Accountant-General had bribed some media organisations they contacted for help and their request to expose his atrocities was, therefore, turned down.
“He went as far as bribing this girl with gold of over N200 million, iPhones, buying cars for her, giving her millions of naira – all to buy her attention. He started meeting different people that he wanted to know the girl’s family; he married the girl, just like that.
“There was no investigation just because he is the Accountant General of the Federation. Why are things happening in this country like this? He even told the girl to go and look for any house of her choice in Abuja, that he is ready to purchase it for her.
“He is spending the government money and every media house we go to report him, he pays them not to air or report the story. Please help us for justice to be done. This girl is just sixteen years old,” the source had added.
SaharaReporters had in a series of detailed investigations exposed how Idris acquired several properties whose value ran into many billions of naira since he was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as the administrative head of the treasury in June 2015.
A visit to Gezawa Commodity Market Limited and Gezawa Integrated Farms Limited owned by Idris lend credence to the allegations made by concerned citizens and some stakeholders on how and where the AGF got the money he used in acquiring the multi-billion naira firms, both in Kano through his direct family members.
The shareholdings of both firms indicate a spread of Idris family members on the official board.
There have also been questions asked about how the AGF bought ‘Sokoto Hotel’ in Kano with N500million cash.
SaharaReporters gathered that Idris upon acquiring the hotel ordered its immediate demolition to build a multi-billion naira shopping mall on the property.
Despite turning 60 in 2020, Idris succeeded in pulling different strings in the Presidency to secure an extension of his appointment beyond the legal limit.
SaharaReporters gathered that he engaged the services of highly placed persons including governors, senators and emirs who prevailed on President Buhari to give him the extension.
The action is, however, against the civil service rules, which state that a career civil servant must disengage from service either after attaining 60 years of age or having worked for 35 years, whichever comes first.
It was also against a recent circular from the office of the Head of Service to all agencies of the Nigerian Government which says, “For the avoidance of doubt and in order to maintain discipline and integrity of the extant public service rule which prescribed 60 years of age or 35 years of service for mandatory retirement, should strictly be complied with.
“Accordingly, the following guidelines shall apply. (I) that career officers who take up tenured appointments should at the point of taking up the appointment retire from service to ensure they run their term uninterrupted.
“(II) that career officers who have not retired from service before the commencement of their tenured appointment must leave office on the attainment of mandatory age/years of service for retirement and (iii) that career officers who are currently holding tenured appointment are required to retire from service with immediate effect and continue to run their term. Failure to do so would mean that they would vacate office on attaining the mandatory age or at the expiration of their term whichever comes first.”
