E2%80%93-governorship-candidate-soludo-laments Anambra Loses N19.6billion During Any Sit-at-home Day – Governorship Candidate, Soludo Laments
Charles Soludo
A former Central Bank Governor and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the forthcoming governorship elections in Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has said the state loses N19.6billion every day that it is locked down.
Soludo stated this at an enlarged meeting with Anambra State Elders and Stakeholders Forum, and Forum of Heads of Broadcast Media Stations in Anambra State.
Charles Soludo
He called on the people spilling blood in the state to have a rethink, adding that such actions did not define who Anambra people were.
“Anambra State economy loses an estimated sum of N19.6billion every time the sit-at-home directive is enforced in the state.
“Such actions do not define who we are. That is why we are calling on those responsible to stop because we are hurting ourselves,” Soludo said.
Professor Soludo while calling on Ndi Anambra to be watchful, praised Governor Willie Obiano for what he called outstanding achievements.
He added, “Governor Willie Obiano has delivered sustainable legacy projects to Ndi Anambra including the Anambra International airport, the International convention centre, Awka and the Awka stadium.”
He said the governor has done well despite overseeing two recessions and the state suffering dwindling federal allocations.

Ruling Party, APC Leader, Tinubu Speaks On UK Treatment, Says Physiotherapy Is ‘Gruesome’
The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress and former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu, has confirmed that he went through a challenging health condition, saying his “physiotherapy was gruesome.”
Tinubu said this while addressing members of the House of Representatives northern caucus that visited him in London on Friday, according to Punch.
The former governor, who has been in the United Kingdom for the last three months since undergoing knee surgery, told the gathering, “Because of God and people like you, I am well. It is just the physio (physiotherapy) that is gruesome.”
Since his departure, Tinubu’s London home has become a Mecca of sorts as he has been visited by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila; Governors Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), and Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti).
SaharaReporters had reported last week that Fayemi also confirmed that Tinubu had surgery recently and he (Fayemi) was in London to show solidarity.

Ekiti Governor Confirms SaharaReporters’ Story On Tinubu, Says Ex-Lagos Governor Has Health Challenges, Underwent Surgery
0 Comments
The governor had said, “He (Akeredolu) and I were in London together to see our leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, but it had absolutely nothing to do with 2023 presidential plans whatsoever. That’s not the reason why we went there.
“Asiwaju had just surgery, it is simply proper etiquette or behaviour both in the part of the country where I come from but also generally that when a friend and elder is undergoing health challenges, it would be improper on your part not to show solidarity and support.
“That is simply what took us there; we wanted to associate ourselves with him at a time of need and as an elder, as a mentor and as a big figure in our political party. Nothing wrong in paying him a courtesy visit to check on him to see how he was faring and we did that and we returned. It has nothing to do with 2023; let me make that absolutely clear.”
Tinubu’s health has been a subject of controversy of late.
President Muhammadu Buhari also made a surprise visit to Tinubu in London where he was seen leaning on a walking stick.
SaharaReporters had reported that Tinubu underwent a knee surgery at the John Hopkins University Hospital in Maryland, US.
The APC chieftain, it had been learnt, left the US for the United Kingdom on crutches, a few days after the surgery.
Sources close to Tinubu told SaharaReporters that he wanted the surgery in Paris, France but changed his plan over rumours of his death.
“Tinubu had his second surgery at John Hopkins University in Maryland recently. He was accompanied by a popular Nigerian doctor in Chicago. He had wanted the surgery in Paris but when rumour was rife about his death, he hurriedly left for Nigeria and went to John Hopkins,” one of the sources had said.
“He left the US for the UK on crutches,” another source revealed.
SaharaReporters had on July 31 reported that Tinubu, who has had several medical trips this year alone, had a surgery about two weeks earlier and could be billed for another one.
The APC National Leader has been off official and party functions in the country for a while, amidst talks that he is being positioned for the 2023 presidency to succeed the incumbent repressive regime of Buhari.
“Tinubu is hospitalised in Maryland, US. His health is failing. He couldn’t participate in launching his Arewa library, and he couldn’t participate in the Local Government Area elections last week. He could not attend today’s APC congress due to health reasons.
“He had a surgery last week,” an authoritative source had disclosed.
A few days after the story, photographs of Tinubu hosting Sanwo-Olu in London surfaced where the duo were seen together in a room.
Reports have it that the meeting was held to put an end to speculations surrounding the APC National Leader’s health status.
In January 2021, Tinubu was also reported sick and hospitalised in Paris, France.
Tinubu had earlier complained of exhaustion and travelled out to rest before the news of his collapse went viral.
He was flown to Paris for medical attention in the first week of January.
SaharaReporters had on June 15 reported that Tinubu was also in Paris, battling with some old age ailment.
“Tinubu is in Paris, France for a medical checkup. His health is deteriorating. Old age and other stuff, but he still wants to be president. This could mean another medical tourism p
residency for our country,” a top source had at that time revealed.

E2%80%99s-broadcasting-commission-harasses-bars-radio-station-interviewing-human-rights%E2%80%99 Nigeria’s Broadcasting Commission Harasses, Bars Radio Station From Interviewing Human Rights’ Activist In Lagos
Nigeria’s broadcast regulating body, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has instructed a Lagos State-based radio station, Grajos 89.3fm, not to grant an interview to a human rights’ activist, Mr Temitayo Oyekunle.
SaharaReporters learnt that the incident occurred at about 10.50am on Saturday.
Oyekunle, also an author, had been scheduled for an interview by 11am at the radio station on national issues bordering particularly on Nigeria’s 61st Independence Anniversary.
The NBC, however, called the Grajos management minutes to the programme, warning them not to grant an interview to the human rights’ activist.
SaharaReporters gathered that he was thereafter told that his dialogue on Nigerian Independence would no longer be entertained.
Oyekunle told SaharaReporters on Saturday that the Chairperson of the station got a call from the broadcasting regulator.
He said, “It was a programme on Grajos 89.3fm billed to start at 11am today. I was there at 10:50am waiting in the studio for the interview. I was shocked to be informed that the owner received a call from NBC not to grant any interview on Nigeria’s Independence.”
NBC has been notorious and thus faulted by the public under the Muhammadu Buhari regime for its clampdown on media platforms for reporting and airing criticisms of the Nigerian government.
It had, in recent times, slammed heavy fines on Arise TV, AIT and Channels Television for what it termed “unprofessional coverage of the #EndSARS protest” that lasted for two weeks in October last year.
It also slammed N3million each on these media houses and also again imposed a N5million fine on Channels TV in May for granting an interview to the Media and Publicity Secretary of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Emma Powerful.

E2%80%99s-recipe-anarchy-%E2%80%93-bayelsa-governor-kicks-against-buhari%E2%80%99s-petroleum-act It’s Recipe For Anarchy – Bayelsa Governor Kicks Against Buhari’s Petroleum Act
The Bayelsa State governor, Douye Diri, has described the Petroleum Industry Acts (PIA) recently signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari as another step taken by the Federal Government to keep the oil-producing states as surbordinates.
The governor, while speaking during the state banquet to mark Nigeria’s 61 years independence anniversary and 25th anniversary of the creation of Bayelsa State in Yenagoa, appealed to aggrieved interests across the country to stop bloodletting and use dialogue to resolve differences.
He urged the Federal Government to reconsider the provisions of the PIA for the good of the oil producing states and the interest of peace.
He said, “The recent passage and signing into law of the Petroleum Industry Act which I have tagged ‘as a recipe for anarchy’ is yet another step taken to subordinate the oil producing states and make it more like a subordinate and superordinate relationship.
“There is a missing gap in the relationship of our dear state Bayelsa and indeed the Niger Delta states and the centre is affected. I keep saying it at all times, that every day, we as a people, we worship, every Sunday, we go to Church to worship, every Friday the Muslims go to Mosque to worship, but we still have sins in our society.
“Therefore, in the same vain, we will not be tired to continue to talk about justice and freedom for Bayelsa State and indeed the Niger Delta region.
“And for us as a state, I like to let us know that our oil is diminishing, there is a forecast that very soon, nobody will trade on oil again; the European countries have already started doing away with fossils, therefore, while the oil still lasts, even though we have only 13%, and 87% is appropriated to the Federal Government, we will continue to talk about it.
“But as we keep talking about it, we have to look for other ways of diversifying our economy in Bayelsa State. We are gathered here today to honour and renew the dreams of our founding fathers, of an egalitarian and prosperous Bayelsa State and Nigeria.”

E2%80%93-council-chairman Boko Haram Fighters Control Communities In Eight Wards In Niger State – Council Chairman
File photo used to illustrate story
Hundreds of communities domiciled in eight political wards in Niger State, are currently under the command of Boko Haram terrorists who have dislodged the Nigerian civil authorities.
According to People’s Gazette, Suleiman Chikuba, the chairman of Shiroro Local Government Area, stated this while speaking with reporters on Friday, noting that eight wards, which are Manta, Gurmana, Bassa-Kokki, Allawa, Kurebe, Kushaka, Kwati and Chukumba, had been taken over by the insurgents.
File photo used to illustrate story
The insurgents reportedly threatened to take over Shiroro Hydro Power Station, one of Nigeria’s largest power infrastructure.
Chikuba’s alarm comes on the heels of the terrorists’ onslaught and massacre of innocent citizens in Kachiwe community in Munya Local Government Area of Niger.
Governor Abubakar Sani Bello had sounded a similar alarm after Boko Haram sacked villages and hoisted its flag in Kaure village of Shiroro LGA about six months ago.
Chikuba noted Shiroro LGA was not only plagued with banditry but also suffered constant attacks from terrorists.
He explained the takeover has emboldened the insurgents to begin the recruitment process of new members, promising them sophisticated arms as well as teaching them tactics to bring down the government.
The local government chairman said his statements were no bluff as he had proof to back up his claims.
He therefore called on the federal government to force out the terrorists who seemed to have found a haven in Shiroro LGA.
Chikuba said; “As the Chairman of Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, I can tell you that Shiroro is not only dealing with the issue of banditry, Shiroro has a lot of Boko Haram, I have proof of this as the chairman,
“Boko Haram has proclaimed that they do not want conventional primary and secondary schools, their only preference is the Islamic school.”

Human Rights Group, CORE Demands Release Of Arrested ‘October 1’ Protesters In Abuja
A human rights advocacy group, the Coalition for Revolution (CORE), has commended Nigerian youths who trooped out to protest against the bad governance of President Muhammadu Buhari, when the country celebrated the 61st Independence Day Anniversary on Friday.
CORE also called for the immediate release of the six protesting youths arrested and detained by the Nigerian Police Force in the nation’s capital.
This was contained in a statement titled, ‘CORE Salutes Patriotic Youths, Demands Immediate Release of #Abuja6’ by CORE conveners, Baba Aye and Gbenga Komolafe, which was made available to SaharaReporters on Saturday.
CORE argued that protest remains a fundamental human right of citizens, and not a criminal activity, hence, it has to be respected by the security operatives.
The statement reads, “The Coalition for Revolution (CORE) salutes youths who joined the #October1stProtest in several states across the federation. In the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos, Oyo, Osun, Edo, Bayelsa and Benue states amongst others, these youths demonstrated their readiness to take their fate in their hands.
“In utter contempt of the protesters fundamental rights and freedom of association, the police in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory arrested six CORE members over the protest. These include Benjamin Manaseh, Mohammed Labaran, Danjuma Patience and Ibrahim.
“The youths and working-class people whose struggle paved the way for Flag Independence stopped agonising and started organising. That is exactly what the youths who organised and demonstrated yesterday under the CORE banner did. It is not enough to agonise. We must organise to win our total liberation.
“Protest is not a crime. Indeed it is a duty in a situation like that which millions of Nigerians are living through. And it is a fundamental democratic right.
“Thus, the Coalition for Revolution calls for the immediate and unconditional release of the #Abuja6.”

VIDEO: Nigerian Protesters Slap Top Government Official In US For Meddling In Anti-Buhari Protests
Some Nigerian protesters have been captured in a video slapping a top government official believed to be one of those who accompanied President Muhammadu Buhari to the United States.
The official was harassed and slapped by the anti-Buhari protesters for meddling in the demonstrations and trying to dissuade the protesters.
The video, obtained by SaharaReporters, showed the moment the official, clad in a blue suit, was scolded by the protesters, as he tried to convince them to leave the scene of the demonstrations. WATCH: Nigerian Protesters Slap Top Government Official In US For Meddling In Anti-Buhari Protests pic.twitter.com/OezJGunych— Sahara Reporters (@SaharaReporters) October 2, 2021
The official, whose identity could not yet be ascertained, was seen approaching the protesters and shouting “I’m for One Nigeria” but he was resisted as the angry agitators shouted him down and eventually slapped him, for pushing one of them.
Meanwhile, in a video obtained by SaharaReporters on Saturday, the official standing in the way of the anti-Buhari’s government protesters was humiliated as he yelled, “I am for One Nigeria.”
One of the agitators then told the government official, “Mention three streets in the North. Get out. If you are for one Nigeria, go home. Go home. Go home. Go back to Nigeria and dress like this and let them see you. I just came back from Nigeria. Look at you, go and sit down.”
He was, however, slapped when he forced himself on the protesters and pushed one of them, which made the person filming to shout the more as he threatened to beat up the official.
Another protester said, “Respect yourself. You’re a useless man; such an unfortunate fellow. You’re a citizen, I’m a citizen too. We’ll beat you and nothing will happen.”
SaharaReporters had reported last week how three groups stormed the United Nations headquarters in New York, United States to stage protests as Buhari attended to address at the UN General Assembly, an event held for a week.
Two groups were in the US to protest against the ills of Buhari’s government while one was organised by a pro-Buhari clique to stand against his critics.
One of the groups, the Nigerian Indigenous Nationalities Alliance for Self-Determination, is headed by Yoruba Historian, Prof Banji Akintoye.
Also, activists under the aegis of TakeItBack Movement who mobilised for a protest at UN headquarters in New York were there to lay out their demands.
Meanwhile, a third group ‘One Nigeria Group,’ was there, after the members were allegedly paid to express their support for the nation’s leader while promoting the concept of unity in diversity.
The renowned historian had accused the Nigerian government of sponsoring the counter-protest at UN headquarters, alleging that black foreigners living in the United States of America were “hired at $500 per head.”
