E2%80%99s-aide-july-over-ipob-membership Nigerian Army Detains Enugu Governor’s Aide Since July Over IPOB Membership
Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi
The Nigerian Army has arrested and detained for over one month Mr Tochukwu Okeke, the Senior Special Assistant on Security matters to the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
SaharaReporters learnt that Okeke was arrested in July over his alleged membership of the Indigenous People of Biafra and had been detained since then at the barracks of the 82 Division, Enugu State.
Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi
SaharaReporters gathered that the Nigerian Army despite an order from the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, continued to hold Okeke in its custody.
The court had last week ordered the Nigerian Army to release unconditionally, the Senior Special Assistant but the military authorities refuse to obey.
Okeke’s lawyer, Chinedum Agwaramgbo, had filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit for the release of his client imprisoned by the 82 Division.
According to the supporting affidavit attached to the motion, Okeke was arrested by officers of the respondents for allegedly belonging to IPOB and its Eastern Security Network.
The Nigerian Army, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, and the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Mechanised Division Enugu, Taoreek Lagbaja, are the 1st and the 3rd respondents in the suit.
The court had on July 29, 2021, ordered the army to produce Okeke and show cause why the detainee should not be released on bail.
However, the respondents ignored the court’s order as they neither filed any response nor put up a legal representation, necessitating the judge, Stephen Pam, to make an interlocutory order for the unconditional release of Okeke.
A military source noted that Okeke allegedly coordinated a syndicate which attacked police and military facilities within Enugu including Adani Police Division, a military checkpoint along Adani- Omoh road, Ezeagu Police Division, military Check point along Orji River-Udi road, military checkpoint along Enugu Abakaliki Road and a host of others.
The source alleged that one of the syndicates’ camps was raided at Akpawfu-Amangwunze in the Nkanu West Local Government Area where several arms, ammunition, cars and charms were recovered.
The Nigerian Army, known for serial violation of the court orders, however, refused to release Okeke as ordered by the court.

E2%80%93-46-year-old-suspect How We Emptied Bank Accounts Of Many Nigerians – 46-year-old Suspect
A 46-year-old suspect, Zakarriyah Yahaya, also known as ”His Excellency”, on Monday revealed how and his gang emptied the bank accounts of many Nigerians using lost or stolen SIM cards
Yahaya, among 39 suspects, was paraded for various crimes at defunct headquarters of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Abuja by the Nigerian police.
He explained that bank accounts of many Nigerians receiving alerts were easy to access by using their account and phone numbers.
The suspects were arrested across the country by Force Investigation Bureau of Intelligence Response Team (IRT) led by Tunji Disu, who took over recently from the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari.
Speaking to journalists, the suspect said, “My name is Zakarriyah Yahaya; I was born and brought up in Jos. I was arrested last month in Mabushi here in Abuja. I used to reset any SIMs that receive bank alert. I will reset it and steal all the money inside the bank account.
”I do reset it with victim’s bank account number through bank code from the first to the last number. Any bank that we get, we first use it to buy recharge card. From there, they will send us the alert. From the alert, we will now get the account number.”
He disclosed that they started the job in the last two years and no fewer than eleven members of the gang worked with him. He added they operated in three main cities: Kano, Plateau and Abuja.
He said he could not recall the exact numbers of bank accounts they’d stolen from but they had once removed N800,000 from one of the accounts.
In a release, the Force Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba, stated that the police recovered two RPG launchers, 13 AK-47 rifles, four locally made pistols, 58 wraps of dynamite, 769 AK-47 live ammunition, 14 AK-47 magazines, 30 live cartridges among others from the 39 suspects.
“The Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has reassured citizens that the Force remains committed to ensuring that perpetrators of criminal acts are brought to book and justice served to their victims.
“He enjoined members of the public to be vigilant and promptly report any suspicious act to the Police. He further advised that citizens should exercise necessary caution in the use of their mobile phones, especially those with SIM cards linked to their bank accounts. All the suspects will be charged to court on completion of investigations,” Mba said.

Nigerian Army Pardons New Batch Of Over 200 Boko Haram Fighters, Families
File photo used to illustrate story.
The Nigerian Army has stated that it received a fresh batch of over 200 repentant Boko Haram fighters and their family members in clearance operations in Saturday and Sunday in Borno State.
The army high command noted that a total of 186 Boko Haram terrorists surrendered on Saturday led by their Amir, Manye Aga, to troops of Operation Hadin Kai at the Forward Operational Base (FOB) in Ajiri.
File photo used to illustrate story.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, the military received 33 additional Boko Haram fighters from Landanli, Azah, Ngaridua and Kondilla villages, who surrendered to own troops of 151 Task Force Battalion, Banki Junction in Bama.
The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, stated these in a release on Monday, obtained by SaharaReporters, despite the outcries and widespread condemnation that had greeted the exercise.
Many Nigerians have called for the due prosecution of the former fighters instead of a blanket pardon and rehabilitation with tax payers’ money.
The army spokesman in a release said, “Following the recent unprecedented and massive surrendering of Boko Haram Terrorists in Bama Operational area between August 2 and 4, there has been confusion and severe apprehension in the camps of the Islamic State of West Africa Province especially amongst its top ranking commanders over the depleting strength of its members, which has drastically dwindled their overall fighting efficiency.
“It is against this back drop that the terrorists group opted for the use of propaganda via AMAQ Terrorists Media Wing with the aim to portray the group as if it is still a potent force in the North East.
“The current trend of apprehension in their camps was further aggravated by the recent alarming turn out of members of the terrorists group, who came out in droves with their families to lay down their arms and surrender to own troops at Mafa Local Government Area on 14 August, 2021.
“A total of 186 Boko Haram Terrorists members led by their Amir, Manye Aga, comprising 67 adult males, 54 adult females and 65 children surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI at Forward Operational Base (FOB) Ajiri. Items recovered from the surrendered terrorists include, several AK 47 rifles and magazines, a locally made pistol and 8 locally fabricated daggers.
“Similarly, on 15 August, 2021, the Theatre took custody of additional Boko Haram fighters, comprising of 4 adult males, 11 adult females and 18 children from Landanli, Azah, Ngaridua and Kondilla villages, who surrendered to own troops of 151 Task Force Battalion, Banki Junction in Bama.
“ISWAP is yet to come to terms with the reality of its current predicament, which has posed serious negative impact on its prowess.
“It is also worthy of note that the terrorists are overwhelmed with palpable fear and are making desperate efforts to halt the ongoing surrendering of their fighters from the Tumbus and Sambisa axis.
“The Nigerian Military is more resolute in intensifying both kinetic and non-kinetic efforts in the fight against insurgency, banditry and sundry crimes in the country.”

The United States Government has stated that following Taliban’s capture of Afghanistan, Afghan citizens who are seeking to leave their homeland may be received as refugees in the US.
The US Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, disclosed this in a tweet on Monday.

She assured that the U.S. government was ready to host any Afghan national who wants to resettle at the moment.

The recent unsavoury situation in Afghanistan followed the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the country.
From city to city, the Taliban kept advancing till the country’s president, Ashraf Ghani, was said to have fled to another country.
On his part, Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister, Mohammed Haneef Atmar, condemned what was playing out in his country.
“Greetings and best wishes to all dear friends and compatriots. After yesterday’s cowardly attacks on my colleagues and my residence, which I strongly condemn, we arrived safely with a number of respected colleagues. I will soon share my views on the current situation in the country with my dear compatriots,” he tweeted on Monday.
SaharaReporters had earlier reported that thousands of inmates, including members of the Islamic State and al-Qaeda, were released from a prison on the outskirts of Kabul as the Taliban called for a “peaceful transition” of power.
The Afghan government troops had surrendered the Bagram airbase housing Pul-e-Charki prison, which has around 5,000 prisoners to the Taliban on Sunday.
Footage published by an Afghan news agency, which supports the Taliban, appears to show militants letting the inmates out.
Local residents say they have also heard gunfire coming from the facility, the BBC reported.
The Taliban arrived on the outskirts of Kabul on Sunday, several days after capturing other major cities in the country.
The Taliban militants, who have now taken over the government, also declared the war over a day after seizing the capital, while Western nations scrambled to evacuate their citizens from an increasingly chaotic Kabul airport.
President Ashraf Ghani fled the country on Sunday as the Islamists entered Kabul virtually unopposed.

E2%80%99s-suit-against-striking-doctors Court Fixes Date To Hear Nigerian Government’s Suit Against Striking Doctors
The National Industrial Court, Abuja, on Monday fixed September 15 to hear an application brought by the Federal Government against the striking resident doctors.
When the matter came up by way of originating summons, the vacation judge, Justice John Targema, said that the claimant’s application would be taken.
He however, directed that the defendant should appear on the next adjourned date to show cause why the “No work, no pay” rule should not be enforced against it.
Targema thereafter adjourned until September 15 for hearing of the application from parties.
The resident doctors under the umbrella of the National Association of Resident Doctors began the strike on August 2.
SaharaReporters had on Saturday reported that the Federal Government dragged the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) to the National Industrial Court of Nigeria over the ongoing industrial strike action.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, had disclosed this in a letter addressed to NARD and the Federal Ministry of Health.
“Whereas trade dispute has arisen and now exists between NARD and the Federal Ministry of Health/Federal Government and whereas efforts to promote settlement through conciliation were ongoing but had now failed.
“Considering the facts that members of NARD who are classified as essential services workers/employees had embarked on strike on August 2, over the issues under conciliation.
“Contrary to the provisions of Section 18 of the Trade Disputes Act CAP T8, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2004, after attending a Conciliation and Agreement Review meeting on July 22.
“Further considering that the Federal Ministry of Health claims to have and produced evidence to have met most of their demands based on the various Memorandum of Action reached during past conciliations, especially that of July 22.
“Now therefore, I, Sen. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 17 of the Trades Disputes Act , CAP T8 laws of the Federation of Nigeria.
“‘I, hereby refer the matter for consideration, and the issues in dispute to the National Industrial Court of Nigeria for adjudication,” the minister had said.
The strike was due to what NARD called the failure of the government to meet its demands after the government entered into a memorandum of action that led to it calling off its strike in 2020.
One of the demands was the withdrawal of the circular by the Head of Service removing House Officers from the scheme of service.

E2%80%99s-debacle-evans-ufeli-esq Miracle Money: The Apostle Suleman’s Debacle By Evans Ufeli Esq
Evans Ufeli
Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful. And so Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest. This cannot be truer anywhere else but in Nigeria. Religion has taken a very gory dimension in the shores of our country and the masses are the worse hit in the circumstance, more like a pandemic if you ask me.
The General Overseer of the Omega Fire Ministries, Apostles Suleman in a recent video made a claim in his church, commanding angels to send monies to the bank accounts of worshippers.. The congregation rejoiced while he made this proclamations to them. Some members claimed to have received alerts from the angels in the church.
A young man – Mr. Israel. Balogun went out to challenge the pastor, adding that his claim was false as same was targeted at misleading the public. The pastor petitioned the police to have the young man arrested. The police invited and detained the young man.
The fact of this case underscores the struggles of this society in the hand of her religious leaders who deceives them toy with their gullibility. First, the elites want to have their way unchallenged at all cost. To say you have made angel cashiers to send money to people’s bank accounts is not practicable, forget carnality, it’s not what you should say to an already gullible congregation.
It’s a lie!
That the Holy Spirit just whispered to you that people will receive alert for money they did not work for. This cannot be true! You must admit you’ve got ulterior motives by advancing that implacable narrative. Then to say anyone talking about the issue is insulting God is not true. God cannot be mocked.
Evans Ufeli
Again, the congregation who lack critical thinking, who are the real problem in this whole conversation, looking for an easy way out to make money are the very reason the religious enterprise flourishes, causing crime to reach an implosive level in our country.
You don’t pray to get money transferred to you, that is clearly selfish. You work for money. Offer services or sell goods, that’s how to make money. People should be taught industry and the cogent principles of entrepreneurship and skill acquisition rather than looking on to angels to fill their financial void.
Religion has ravaged this society and turned the larger population of our citizens to a burden unto themselves. It is not faith to say angels has transferred monies to people’s bank accounts, it’s madness! Teach people to develop themselves- their inner faculties, to learn a skill and earn money legitimately. It’s heresy to ask them to wait on your angels to earn money without their input.
Lastly. the police who do not investigate matters before swigging into action as long as the matter is reported by a rich man, we are tired of you. You are the biggest disgrace in this social disorderliness and unrest. Can you explain to Nigerians the reason for the young man’s detention in relation to the pastor’s claim? Do you believe angels are cashiers? What is wrong with you guys? This survival mentality is the reason you have no respect in this society and you are not ashamed of yourselves. You are creating more problems for this society that you can yourself manage. While not sit the complainant down and evaluate his claim and check his mental health before jumping carelessly to arrest a suspect.
So tell us, what is the young man’s offense? Under what law will you charge him?
How can the police, the clergy and the congregation be mad at the same time?
Why are you all sick at the same time?
I would therefore advocate that the times has come for the government to regulate religion in Nigeria and enact legislations to curb this madness before it gets out of hand.

2023: Power For Power! By Ozodinukwe Okenwa
SOC Okenwa
The 2023 presidential poll in Nigeria is still two years away but political permutations and tractations have commenced in earnest. The (mis)ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party are positioning themselves to retain power post-Buharism. Since President Buhari has failed to deliver on anything and change or transform Nigeria it would be very difficult for the APC to convince Nigerians to vote it again into power. But Nigeria being Nigeria (where everything is fair ad possible) the APC could pull off a ‘stunning’ victory through elaborate rigging.
Having rejected the electronic transmission of results the APC apparatchiks are apparently preparing the ground for electoral fraud come 2023. But the conventional and non-conventional opposition elements are alive to their responsibilities.
On the other hand the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are desperately thirsty for power at the zenith. Having dominated the national political scene for 16 unbroken years ad now forced to be in the opposition six years down the line the PDP are strategizing and re-strategizing towards seizing power democratically for the sleazy funds to get rolling again!
SOC Okenwa
Now, Nigerians are at the mercy of these two corrupt political establishments united by only graft and mediocrity. A third force could rise to challenge the two dominant parties in order to force a desired change.
As 2023 general elections draw ever closer chances are that things could change when President Buhari and his enabling cabal are sent out of Aso Rock.
Issues abound that ought to occupy our attention as campaign issues. Issues like power generation and distribution, poverty, corruption, agitations for secession, restructuring, infrastructure decay, policing and justice delivery. While corruption remains the greatest challenge facing our nation the Buharian sectional ethno-religious politics is another. And yet another is power — its generation and supply chain.
Today we shall be focusing on power and how inadequate supply of same nationwide is keeping Nigeria from reaching her greatness. Potentially Nigeria is a great nation given her abundant natural and human resources.
When Olusegun Obasanjo was President he had claimed that billions of Dollars (sixteen or thereabout!) were pumped into the power sector. But we are yet to experience any difference despite the humongous funds thrown into the all-important sector. Or did ‘Baba’ and his cronies simply share the money and sign off bogus or non-existent contracts to that effect?
Earlier this month the human rights lawyer, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, (SAN), had issued a statement entitled “Government in power without power” and published online. In the release the notable senior lawyer lambasted the Buhari administration for its inability to provide or guarantee steady power supply to Nigerians. He made it clear that Nigerians were tired of excuses from the Muhammadu Buhari-led government and wanted value for their votes.
For the senior advocate: “Power generation is the main issue in regard to the socio-economic development of any nation. In Nigeria however, successive governments have deployed it for political gains, knowing the importance that Nigerians attach to it”.
And continuing he railed: “The impression that our leaders in power have conveyed to us is that it is practically impossible to have stable and permanent power supply; that we don’t have the resources to build the needed energy plants that will meet the needs of all Nigerians….. that we must accept generators as second nature, if we must function and survive, as a people….Churches, Mosques, banks, schools, small businesses, factories, government ministries and departments, police stations, the courts and even the Power Holding Company of Nigeria itself, all depend on generators.”
Lawyer Adegboruwa called out the Super Minister of Power and former Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, for having asserted that any serious government would fix the power problem in six months prior to his entrance into the Buhari regime and now doing practically nothing to “crack this seemingly hard nut”. Now, Fashola “had power but could not deliver power!”
Adegboruwa questioned the rationale behind our supply of power to neighbouring Niger Republic when we do not have enough for ourselves! You do not export what you do not have in abundance or do you? We export petrol because we have it in abundance but the same cannot be said of electricity.
What is surprising is that in Niger Republic or Benin Republic where we reportedly export electricity these Francophone countries enjoy more stable power supply than Nigeria, the exporter! How can you give what you do not have? It is criminal to sell what you need at home.
The man of law concluded soundly that: “The campaign now for all Nigerians should be that of Power for Power. If you cannot provide POWER (electricity) to better our lives and develop ourselves, then you are not entitled to POWER (governance) to better your pockets”.
In 2023 Nigerians must insist on power for power! That is, whether the ruling party gets re-elected or the opposition regaining power (or even a third force conquering Aso Villa) the candidate must be able to demonstrate his or her capacity through a convincing programme of action to transform the comatose power sector.
It must be power for power! Power (electricity) must be the priority. We have lived too long in power slavery!

Lessons From Afghanistan: The Imperative For A United Spirit Against Insurgency By Pelumi Olajengbesi Esq.
Much has been and will continue to be written about the Taliban’s takeover of military and political power in what is now called the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. It is an emerging story that has left the world aghast at its sheer incredulity and the implications for Afghans, its neighbours and the whole world.
For sub-saharan Africa, particularly Nigeria which now finds itself buffeted by an unending war against insurgents in the northeast and religiously motivated cells of militias and bandits in the North West and Central, there could be explosive consequences as local jihadists could very well find motivation for their actions and be spurred onto even deadlier actions in pursuit of shared objectives with the Afghan Mujahideens.
Al Jazeera
There are serious concerns here. Religious fanaticism and extremism have been fingered as the culprit behind the Boko Haram insurgence and the general abhorrence of western-styled education even amongst a northern populace with neither affinity nor sympathy for insurgency. Misguided romanticism for fanatically conservative ethos in northern Nigeria could very well be fertile ground for even more extremist strains to be sown and spread. If it happens, if we lose the north to the seduction of extremism as represented by spectrums such as the Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAP) aka Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda and the Taliban, we would all be sorry.
What’s more, with increased ethno-religiously motivated killings in Jos, Kaduna and Benue state, Kano Hisbah’s nonplussed banning of mannequins and contemplation of banning female drivers; Boko Haram’s imposition of its own Governor in Borno state, hoisting of its flag in Shiroro, Niger state so dangerously close to the nation’s capital, Abuja and the guerrilla campaign of herdsmen and bandits whose murderous assault on innocent civilians remain unchecked, one fears that the Taliban ideology has pervaded and permeated the fringes of northern Nigeria than is sufficiently admitted or talked about. We must be wary!
The lesson for Nigeria from Afghanistan is therefore specific. No one will fight for our continuous independence outside of ourselves. This is our war and we can’t afford to lose. We must embrace our pluralism and work harder to achieve an integrated society amenable to constructive change and development. Taliban and Boko Haram represent the very opposite of progressive as seen in their objectification and relegation of women, abhorrence for science and innovation, and rather violent disposition against the right to thought, religion and assembly. Even Afghans know! The videos and pictures out of Afghanistan reveal so much desperation. There is an uneven scramble for available conveyance out of Afghanistan by diplomats and indigenes alike. In one particular video, two young men are seen hanging onto the recoiling wheels of a plane that takes off into the air, they are then seen to lose their grip and fall to their deaths with their blood-spattered bodies on the sidewalk a befitting, if not sober, canvass of the despondency in Afghanistan today.
I recollect that when Libya fell, a proliferation of arms and jihadists found their way into Nigeria to join the so-called ‘holy war’ and stunted the imperative of a hitherto progressively successful war against Boko Haram. With Afghanistan’s fall to the Taliban, we must be even warier. They will hope to embolden local terrorists and the casualties would be the nation’s sovereignty and the freedom of you and I.
Indeed, if we let our country be consumed, we may never find our way back to nationhood. We are warned!

How 50 Nigerians Were Lost To Insecurity In Last Three Days
File photo used to illustrate story.
About 50 persons have been killed during various attacks that happened across the country in the last three days.
These attacks came as the presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, claimed that security challenges in the country were being “played up” to tarnish the achievements of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
File photo used to illustrate story.
According to an article by Adesina on Thursday, he said, “Some people want to downplay infrastructure, and play up insecurity, all in an attempt to vitiate the achievements of the Buhari administration.”
But during the weekends, different attacks which led to the death of many Nigerians happened thereby negating the spokesperson’s claims.
Recall that a former councillor, Hassan Tukur, was killed by unknown gunmen in Zamfara State exactly the day Adesina published the article.
Also, two policemen met with their death after armed men attacked the Izombe Police Divisional Headquarters, in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.
Peoples Gazette reports that at Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau state, 25 commuters were killed by hoodlums on Saturday August 14 while on the same day, eight farmers were killed by bandits in two villages, Buruku and Udaw?a, of Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna state.
In Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, bandits killed nine persons on Sunday August 15. The nine people were killed in Begindo, Dantudu and Tulutu villages.
In the late hours of Sunday, bandits killed four students and abducted 15 persons at the College of Agriculture and Animal Health in Bakura, Zamfara.
Before Adesina falsely claimed that insecurity is being “played up” in the country last Thursday, bandits in several coordinated attacks have kidnapped students in their hundreds for ransom across Katsina, Kaduna, Kebbi, Niger and Zamfara states.
Over 100 students kidnapped in Tegina, Niger State, are still in bondage, more than 70 days after they were kidnapped in May. Similarly, students kidnapped in Kebbi State are yet to be freed.
Last week governor Aminu Masari of Katsina, Buhari’s home state, lamented that 10 out of 34 local governments in his state were under the control of bandits, while urging Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, to deploy technology in combating insecurity in the state.
