We Are Brothers, Oshiomhole Says, Embraces Obaseki In Edo
Former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, has described the incumbent governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki, as his brother and friend on Saturday.
The two hitherto political rivals met in Auchi, Edo State, at the Centenary Birthday Thanksgiving of Msgr. Thomas Oleghe and 18th Canonical Erection Anniversary of the Diocese of Auchi.
Obaseki, who exchanged greetings with an elbow-bump in compliance with COVID-19 preventive protocols, with his predecessor, said they are both sons of Edo with the interest of the state at heart.
Obaseki also said he has no personal grudges against the All Progressives Congress’s former chairman but only dislikes his politics style, a statement from the governor’s office said.
The governor said, “I don’t have anything personal against Oshiomhole. I may not like his politics, but he has not done anything personal against me. We all are interacting with the interest of the country and the development of our community at heart.”On his part, Oshiomhole, a guest at the event, hailed his successor, describing him as “his brother and friend”.
Oshiomhole said, “Once the governor speaks, the matter ends. The governor knows that pensioners here might not be able to do much; that is why he said every other thing required to complete the hostel of the Catholic School of Nursing and Midwifery in Uzairue, his government will do.”The governor, who was elected on the platform of APC in 2016, was denied the party’s ticket for a second term in 2020 due to intra-party wrangling.
He later defected to the Peoples Democratic Party. He defeated Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the APC candidate and the anointed candidate of Oshiomhole and Bola Tinubu in the 2020 Edo State Governorship Election.

ECOWAS Court Orders Nigerian Government To Pay German N65million Over 11-Day Illegal Detention
ECOWAS court.
The Economic Community of West African States has ordered the Federal Government to pay a German national about N65million for his 11 days of illegal detention by the Nigerian Immigration Service in 2020.
The national, Martin Gegenheimer, married to a Nigerian citizen but based in Nairobi, Kenya, had in his suit filed at the court in Abuja claimed that he was illegally detained between February 24 and March 4, 2020.
ECOWAS court.
Gegenheimer, a professional aviator with a specialisation in commercial airline start-up, had said he was arrested at the boarding gate of the Kenya Airways aircraft while leaving for Nairobi on February 24, 2020.
He said his passport was seized and he was held in jam-packed detention despite the COVID protocol” and “without acceptable food as well as medical care.”
A statement by the information unit of the ECOWAS Court in Abuja said on Friday that a three-person panel of the court delivered its judgment on Thursday, upholding Mr Gegenheimer’s case.
The panel, headed by Edward Asante, ordered the Nigerian government to pay N 53,650,925 to Mr Gegenheimer as special damages “for various losses suffered and costs incurred while under unlawful arrest and detention” by the NIS.
The cost also covers hotel expenses incurred after he was granted bail on March 4, 2020.
The court, which had Dupe Atoki and Januaria Costa serving as co-panel members, awarded another N10 million in general damages as “reparation for all violations and moral prejudice suffered for the violation of his rights.”
It also ordered another $10,000 as the expenditure he incurred by the applicant to secure his bail.
The court also ordered the “immediate and unconditional release” of the German’s passport “arbitrarily and unlawfully” seized from him by the Nigerian government.
It also ordered his removal from the government’s watch list.
The court, however, rejected the plaintiff’s claim about the violation of his right to freedom from torture, which it ruled was not supported by evidence.

E2%80%94-suspected-fraudster I Pray For God’s Mercy Before Hacking Into People’s Bank Accounts — Suspected Fraudster
A 27-year-old SIM card hacker, Ayoola Olalekan, has said that he usually begged for God’s mercy before hacking into his victims’ bank accounts.
Olalekan, arrested by the Osun State Police Command and paraded alongside a robbery syndicate, said he never used charms or incantations.
Google/cybercrime
According to Nation, Ayoola, who had been parading himself as a hip-hop artist, admitted being a hacker who withdrew money from his victims’ bank accounts using their SIM cards and bank verification numbers.
He said, “I dropped out when I was in Senior Secondary School, SS 2. My father took another wife, who was not treating me well, so I ran away from home. I then went to Lagos, where I was taught how to hack into people’s SIM cards and transfer money from their bank accounts.
“At a point, I went to learn aluminium, but I left the job to start this ‘Wire Wire job’ and it was paying me well. I got lots of money from the hacking job.
“There was a boy called Samuel. I didn’t know that he was into robbery. He called me one day that there was an iPhone 6X I needed to hack the SIM card. I went to meet him at Toll Gate in Ibadan. He told me that the phone had been with him for more than five days, that I needed to hack the SIM and transfer the money from the owner’s bank accounts.
“I checked the phone but I could not find any contact and the Bank Verification Number (BVN) of the victim. I logged into the iCloud account, but I could not find any clue to hack the bank account until I logged into the phone owner’s email address, where I saw the BVN. I input the BVN in my hacking software and saw the person’s name, date of birth and address. I registered the account and I started transferring his money from his bank accounts.”
The suspect said N500,000 was the highest amount of money he transferred at a go since he started his crime.
“I go to pastors and alfas (Muslim clerics) to pray. I go to mosques and churches to pray for God’s mercy before I start hacking into my victims’ bank accounts to withdraw their money. I have never done a charm in a herbalist’s house. I don’t have an incision on my body. It is not easy to get money. I never did any charm to hack into people’s accounts.
“If I go to a church and a mosque and the cleric asks me for my requests from God, I tell them that all I need is God’s mercy. I have faith in God’s mercy,” he said.

Four bandits and a soldier have been killed after troops of the Nigerian Army encountered bandits in the Marina community in the Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The army said on Saturday that the troops attached to Operation Hadarin Daji on Thursday had a gun battle with the criminals, during which four bandits were killed.
In a release, the military noted that the troops captured two AK-47 rifles and one motorcycle belonging to the bandits.
The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig-Gen Mohammed Yerima, said that the army would continue to dominate the areas for more surveillance.
The army spokesman said, “Troops of Operation Hadarin Daji while conducting a clearance operation against armed bandits and other criminal elements on Thursday, engaged and killed four armed bandits, captured arms and motorcycle during an encounter with the armed bandits in Marina village in Safana LGA of Katsina State.
“The unconfirmed number of armed men with an unspecified number of rustled cattle were sighted and intercepted along Batsari-Runka road. However, in an attempt to escape from the troops’ onslaught, the bandits sporadically fired in the troops’ direction, but the troops responded with superior.
“During the encounter, four-armed bandits were neutralised while others escaped with various degrees of gunshot wounds. The troops also captured two AK-47 rifles and one motorcycle belonging to the bandits. Regrettably, one brave soldier paid the supreme sacrifice during the encounter. Publish Details Of N10.6bn COVID-19 Vaccine Transportation Budget, SERAP Tells Nigerian Government
The Socio-Economic Rights And Accountability Project has demanded that the Federal Government publish the details of the N10.6billion it earmarked for the transportation of the COVID-19 vaccines to states nationwide.
Reacting to the N10.6billion COVID-19 Vaccine transportation budget reported today, SERAP advised that it be executed with transparency and accountability because it is of public interest.
In a tweet, the organisation said, “COVID-19: Spending of N400bn to vaccinate Nigerians and N10.6bn on transportation is a public interest issue. It’s a transparency and accountability issue. It’s a human rights issue. It’s a public health issue. Federal Government @NigeriaGov: Publish details, including online.” COVID-19: spending of N400bn to vaccinate Nigerians and N10.6bn on transportation is a public interest issue. It’s a transparency and accountability issue. It’s a human rights issue. It’s a public health issue.Federal Government @NigeriaGov: Publish details including online.— SERAP (@SERAPNigeria) March 6, 2021
It had been reported that the Federal Government, through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, set aside more than N10.6billion to transport the COVID-19 vaccine to the 36 states and the 774 Local Government Areas as well with Kano, Lagos and Katsina leading the pack.

The government also earmarked N1.4billion for the procurement of Personal Protective Equipment while N373million was set aside to purchase Adverse Events Following Immunisation kits, otherwise known as AEFI kits.
This was contained in a document presented to the 36 governors during a meeting between representatives of the Federal Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Governors Forum.
The document, “Estimated Budget for States Rollout of COVID-19 Vaccines (end-to-end),” showed that Kano State, which has 44 local government areas, has the highest budget for transportation at N685.4million while N558.6m will be spent on distributing the vaccines to Lagos State, which is the epicentre of the COVID-19 pandemic.
About N476million would be spent on distributing vaccines in the President’s home state of Katsina, while N396.3million will be spent in Oyo State.
Bayelsa, which has just eight local government areas, has the lowest budget for vaccine transportation which is N121million.
The total amount of money earmarked for the transportation of vaccine, procurement of Personal Protective Equipment, AEFI kits and sensitisation was summed up at N12.7billion.
The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, had on December 22, 2020, told the Senate that the Federal Government would need about N400billion to vaccinate 70 per cent of Nigeria’s population.
The Senate leadership subsequently asked Ehanire to bring a budget while they promised to give it immediate consideration.
However, it was learnt that as of Friday, no supplementary budget had been sent to the National Assembly.

Ekiti Residents Protest Killing Of Two Farmers By Herdsmen
Residents of Isaba Ekiti in the Ikole Council area of Ekiti State, on Saturday, protested the killing of two farmers by suspected Fulani herdsmen on Friday.
The angry residents, comprising youths, women and the aged, chanted war songs, made bonfires and rained curses on the killers of the two farmers just as vehicular and commercial activities were affected for a greater part of Saturday while the protesters blocked major roads in the community.
TheNation
According to PUNCH, the victims were identified as Toyin Akeju, popularly known as Jisoro in the community, while the other, called Daodu, was said to be a labourer invited to work on the farm. The two victims were mauled on their farmland.
A source in Isaba Ekiti said, “The two victims went to the farm on Friday, and they were killed there by Fulani herdsmen who had been terrorising the Ikole, Oke Ako, Irele, Ipao axes. The dead bodies of the two farmers were recovered from the bush on Saturday.”
Another source, who said the family, after waiting for the return of the two men from the farm on Friday, approached men of Amotekun Corps, who in turn initiated a search team alongside the local hunters and the police to the farm where they discovered their corpses with gunshot injuries on Saturday morning.
He said, “Obviously, it was a reprisal attack because, on Thursday, these farmers were on the farm and had issues with the herdsmen. The herders went away and returned on Friday to commit this cowardly act against the farmers who only challenged them a day earlier. It is an unfortunate situation.”
The Commander, Ekiti Amotekun Corps, Brig. General Joe Komolafe (retd), who confirmed the killing, said his men were already on the criminal elements trail as he assured that the corps would do everything possible to put an end to attacks by suspected herdsmen.
Komolafe said, “The herdsmen allegedly killed the two farmers after an altercation they earlier had on Thursday. We have handed over their corpses to the police while we continue with our investigations”.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, Sunday Abutu, said that the police had begun an investigation to unravel the remote and immediate cause of the crisis and ensure that culprits were brought to book.
Abutu said, “There was a crisis between some farmers and the herders; in the process, there were casualties. The police were contacted and operatives have been deployed to that axis to maintain peace. The deceased’s corpses had been recovered from the Amotekun Corps and deposited in the morgue at Ikole General Hospital.
“The Police Commissioner, Mr Tunde Mobayo, has called for calm. Policemen are on the trail of the suspected killers,” Abutu stated.

E2%80%99s-men-killed-my-brother-59-others-%E2%80%93-nigerian-recounts How Gambia Dictator, Yahya Jammeh’s Men Killed My Brother, 59 Others – Nigerian Recounts
Paul Omozemoje Enagameh of Nigeria who was arrested and forcibly disappeared in The Gambia in 2005.
A Nigerian man, Kehinde Enagameh, whose brother was among about 59 West African migrants killed in Gambia in 2005 by a paramilitary unit controlled by then-President Yahya Jammeh, has demanded that those responsible be brought to justice.
Enagameh told Gambia’s Truth, Reconciliation, and Reparations Commission that his brother, Paul Enagameh, then 28, was missing in 2005 while seeking to migrate to Europe.

He (Kehinde) later learned from a friend that Gambian authorities had arrested and killed his brother.
But for many years, he was unable to learn any more until the killing of the migrants received international attention in recent years.
“Since my brother went missing 15 years ago, we have been searching for the truth about what happened to him. It’s been painful and traumatic for the whole family,” Kehinde Enagameh said.
“I want Yahya Jammeh and those involved in my brother’s killing to be brought to justice.”
Paul Enagameh was one of nine Nigerians killed in the massacre, according to a 2008 report by the Nigerian High Commission in Gambia. Most of the other Nigerian victims have not been identified.
In addition to the Nigerians, about 44 Ghanaians and nationals of Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Liberia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo are believed to have been killed over several days in July 2005.
On February 25, a former senior officer of Gambia’s National Intelligence Agency testifying at the truth commission presented a list of 51 migrants who had been arrested, the first time that an official list of the arrested migrants has been produced.
That list, which includes a “John Amase” from Nigeria, was compiled after eight other migrants, including several Nigerians, had already been killed.
A 2018 report by Human Rights Watch and TRIAL International, based on interviews with 30 former Jammeh-era officials, found that Jammeh’s closest associates in the army, the navy, and the police detained the migrants. Then the “Junglers,” a unit of Gambian soldiers operating under Jammeh’s orders, summarily executed them.
In July 2019, three former Junglers testified publicly before the truth commission that they and 12 other Junglers had carried out the killings on Jammeh’s orders. One of the officers, Omar Jallow, recalled that the operation’s leader told the men that “the order from … Jammeh is that they are all to be executed.”
Previous official attempts to investigate the massacre have been stymied or flawed. Ghana attempted to investigate the killings in 2005 and 2006 but was blocked by the then-Jammeh government.
In 2008, the United Nations and the Economic Community of West African States formed a joint investigative team, which produced a report in April 2009 that was said to have concluded that the Gambian government was not “directly or indirectly complicit” in the deaths and enforced disappearances.
It blamed “rogue” elements in Gambia’s security services “acting on their own” for the massacre. However, the UN/ECOWAS report has never been made public despite repeated requests by the victims and by five UN human rights experts.

E2%80%93-benue-wheelbarrow-pusher Why I Dropped Out Of UI Medical School At 500Level – Benue Wheelbarrow Pusher
Terhemen Anongo
A 43-year-old wheelbarrow pusher in Benue State, Terhemen Anongo, has explained that he dropped out of the University of Ibadan Medical School at 500 Level due to depression caused by the unfriendly academic environment.
Anongo noted that he left UI and returned to Gboko town in Benue State to start a new life by pushing a wheelbarrow since he was not willing to get married.
Terhemen Anongo
Speaking with PUNCH in an interview, the 43-year-old noted that he wanted to study Petroleum Engineering specifically but his father insisted on his choice of Medicine, which later led to depression for him.
He said, “Yes, I was admitted into the University of Ibadan in the 1996/97 session (as a medical student) and by 2000 I moved on to the teaching hospital, UCH (University College Hospital), but I dropped out when I was in 500 Level because I was suffering from severe depression, which made me lose interest in medical school. Though at a point, I tried to go back, the authorities did not allow me.
“I am based in Gboko, Benue State, where I work as a porter, pushing a wheelbarrow. First of all, it was never my desire to study Medicine. I graduated from secondary school and had the best results. I loved Physics and Mathematics, so I wanted to study Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, to be precise. I got the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination form and filled it and took it to my dad, a Mathematics teacher but my dad said no; he said he had some Indian teachers who told him that the best course for me to study was Medicine.
“But when I got to medical school, I realised that Medicine is about cramming, memorising terminologies whose origin you don’t know. So, I lost interest in academic work but I still managed to pass and got to the teaching hospital.
“The way the University of Ibadan is structured, the people there are not friendly, though, is the best medical school. I remember a girl who came from the United States for a programme in UI; before she left, she told the Head of Department that their approach was too harsh; that the environment was not friendly. If you don’t know something, you are not confident to say you don’t know it. That, coupled with my lack of interest, made me quit.”
Anongo noted that he attempted to “go back to take another course, at least to change from Medicine to Psychology, but they refused. I tried other universities, including the University of Maiduguri and Benue State University, to see if I could switch course, they all refused.”
“Yes, I lost interest in academic work; at a point, I thought of suicide; I almost cut off my radial artery so that I could end it all. I am now in Gboko, working as a porter, pushing a wheelbarrow.
“My dad is no more alive but my mum is alive. What she is trying to do now is to set up a chemist shop for me; she has got a shop and I am trying to raise money so I can put some drugs in the shop,” he added.
