Sue For Peace Between Governor Makinde, Igboho, Oyo OPC Tells Traditional Rulers

Seyi Makinde

The Oyo State chapter of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) has called on traditional rulers in Yorubaland to settle the rift between the governor of the state, Seyi Makinde and freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo.
Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has been in the news recently over a seven-day ultimatum he gave to Fulani herdsmen to leave the Ibarapa/Igangan area of Oyo State.

Seyi Makinde

There have also been calls for his arrest since his visit to Ibarapa last Friday after which the house and cars belonging to the Seriki Fulani of Igangan, Alhaji Saliu Abdulkadir, were burnt.
Speaking on Tuesday, the state Chairman of the OPC, Rotimi Olumo, described Igboho as an invaluable future material, not only to the state, but to Nigeria as a whole.According to him, there is an urgent need to sue for peace between Makinde and Igboho at a time like this when the Yoruba nation is faced with security challenges posed by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
He said that the menace being caused by some unscrupulous Fulani people bent on brigandage, kidnappings and killings should be a cause for concern for everyone.
Olumo noted that arresting Igboho now or intimidating him may be counter-productive, as it is not the solution to the issue at hand.
The group commended the Aare Onakankafo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, who also doubles as the overall chieftain of OPC in Nigeria, for supporting the recent actions of Igboho.
Olumo said: “The visit of Sunday Igboho to Igangan was a step in the right direction and should not be used to cause any rift between (Governor Seyi) Makinde and Igboho.”
“Sunday Igboho has really done a good work which is to ensure that there is peace in Oyo State.
“Our traditional rulers must come out in clear terms against the negative acts of the Fulani and not allow them to prevail over us.”
Olumo, however, condemned the razing of Igboho’s house at Soka area of Ibadan by some suspected hoodlums. He called on the concerned authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are all brought to justice.

Fulani Herdsmen Storm Ekiti Forest Reserve, Destroy Multi-million Naira Maize Farm

File Photo: Herdsmen.

Some suspected Fulani herdsmen have allegedly invaded a forest reserve in Ekiti State, destroying a multi-million naira maize farm belonging to members of the Maize Growers Processing Marketer Association of Nigeria (MAGPAMAN).
The farm, covering about 235 hectares of land, is at the state forest reserve in Aduloju farmstead located along Ado-Ijan Road in the Ado Local Government Area of the state.

File Photo: Herdsmen.

Tope Emmanuel, state secretary of MAGPAMAN, in a statement on Tuesday said the herders had been terrorising farmers in the area for the past one week, leading to the destruction of the farm.
Emmanuel pleaded with the state government and other stakeholders to come to their rescue and save them from the hands of the herdsmen.
He said, “Last year, we approached the Central Bank of Nigeria as a group to obtain a loan worth N6.6 million for the maize farm and we planted the maize, covering 235 hectares of farmland.
“But unfortunately, when we were preparing for cultivation, the herdsmen came and destroyed everything in the farm with nothing for us again. Those herders have always been going there during the night with dangerous weapons in the last few days and nobody can challenge them because they are armed. We can’t go to the farm now.
“Don’t forget that the government always says we should go to the farm and we approached the bank for loan hoping to pay back after cultivation but nothing to cultivate now as these herders have destroyed everything on the farm.
“We are begging the state government to save us as our members are really in a difficult situation now in view of the loan and you can predict what would follow if nothing is done.”
The governors of the South-West who met in Ondo State capital, Akure, on Monday had banned all forms of open grazing in the region. The decision was taken during the meeting which was held with the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria as well as security chiefs. The meeting came after the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum given to herdsmen by the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, to vacate the forest reserves in the state.
According to Akeredolu, criminals masquerading as herdsmen have been using the forest reserves to commit crimes.

Kwara N100 Million Bursary Shared Without List Of Beneficiaries, Says EFCC Witness

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday resumed the trial in the alleged mismanagement of N100million scholarship funds by the immediate past chairperson of the Kwara State Scholarship Board, Hajia Fatimoh Yusuf, and two other principal officers of the Board.
The EFCC produced a prosecution witness, Lawal Abdulwahab, who told Justice Sikiru Oyinloye of the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin that he never saw the list of the beneficiaries of the 2018 bursary allowances.

The EFCC Ilorin Zonal Office is prosecuting Yusuf, alongside the Executive Secretary of the Board, Fatai Lamidi, and its Accountant, Ajewole Stephen, on seven counts bordering on stealing and fraudulent diversion of public funds.
According to a release from the commission, the three officers of the Board allegedly diverted state funds to the tune of 100 million earmarked by the government of Kwara State in 2017 and 2018 for payment of bursary allowances to students of the state in various tertiary institutions.
Testifying, Abdulwahab stated that his bank was put in charge of payment of the allowances to respective beneficiaries of the scheme, but was never provided with any list.
Abdulwahab, who was the Head of Operations in a new generation bank, testified as Witness 8.
He said, “My Lord, sometime in 2018, the management of the scholarship board approached our bank for cheque discounting in the payment of bursary allowances to students of Kwara State origin studying in various tertiary institutions.
“The bank’s managing director and I held a meeting with the management of the scholarship board where we agreed to charge the sum of N100 from each of the cheque as interest.
“We were to pay cash of N5,000 to 10,000 students.”
He told the court that officials of the bank followed personnel of the Board to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, but had what he described as a ‘terrible experience’.
According to him, the place was rowdy and insecure.
Abdulwahab stated that a report of what happened was forwarded to the bank following which the bank threatened to back out, a decision he said led to another arrangement to provide cash without the officials of the bank following them to the field.
Testifying further, the witness narrated how the bank provided cash of N5,000 each to 10,000 students and how the scholarship board’s management issued them cheques in return. He told the court that the cheques were not forged.
Under cross-examination, Abdulwahab insisted that he neither sighted the list of beneficiaries at the office of the Kwara State Scholarship Board nor at the EFCC office where he was invited to give his statement on the matter.
The witness stated that all that transpired between his bank and the management of the Kwara State Scholarship Board were normal banking standards, which followed the due process.
The prosecution witness further stressed the fact that his bank’s cash officials no longer followed personnel of the scholarship board to the field after the experience at LAUTECH, for security reasons.
After his testimonies, Justice Oyinloye discharged the witness and adjourned till February 17, 2021, for further hearing.

Orlu Violence: Imo Stakeholders Demand Justice For Residents Killed By Military

Some elder statesmen in Imo State have condemned the destruction of lives and property in the Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State as a result of the clash between the Nigerian Army and the Eastern Security Network, saying that the government must restore law and order.
The stakeholders in a release on Tuesday also demanded justice for those killed by the military, adding that the state governor, Hope Uzodinma, must show leadership at this critical time.

The release was signed by Okechukwu Nwanguma, Victoria Ibezim-Ohaeri, Dr Sam Amadi, Fabian Okoye, Stanley Ibe, Dr Walter Duru, Tony Opara, Chidi Igwe and Ogechi Ikeh.
The stakeholders said, “We, concerned Imo citizens, are seriously worried about the outbreak of violent clashes between security forces and a militant group in the Orlu area of Imo State, resulting in deaths and arson.
“We are worried that the current situation in Orlu has put the lives, property and livelihoods of innocent families and residents of the affected communities at great risk and inconveniences.
“People have been forced to flee their homes and many displaced, including poor families who depend on daily income for their livelihoods.
“Considering the outcomes of similar reprisal military attacks in the past, from the Odi massacre, to Zaki Biam, and recently the military onslaught on residents of Oyigbo Rivers State, we fear that a similar fate may befall innocent residents of Orlu.
“Just last October, a reprisal attack by officers of the 34 Artillery Brigade of Nigerian Army during the violence that trailed the #EndSARS protests left five persons dead and others injured in Nwaorieubi, Mbaitolu in Imo State.
“The dead and the injured have yet to get justice. The current massacre in Orlu adds to the list of extrajudicial killings in Imo perpetrated by military forces, without anybody held to account. Imo communities are crying for justice.”
The group said it called on the Imo State government and military authorities to exercise restraint in their rhetoric and actions and to immediately withdraw soldiers to the barracks.
“The governor must engage both sides in civil process just as we saw in the South-West.
The state government must demonstrate leadership, prioritise the rights and safety of helpless innocent people who are caught in the crossfire and avoid belligerent and fire-for-fire approach to the crisis,” they added.
Many persons were injured when on Monday soldiers stormed Orlu, suspected to be the operational base of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) security outfit, Eastern Security Network (ESN).
The attack by the soldiers was said to be a reprisal after members of the ESN engaged them in a shootout last Friday.
SaharaReporters gathered that one person died at the community market square during the security operation last Friday.
On Monday, five persons were reportedly killed.
Also, about 10 buildings, including a church, Blessed Holy Trinity Sabbath Mission, were allegedly set ablaze by the soldiers.
“They came back today and started killing our people, I can’t confirm the number of casualties now but they are more than five. They were here last Friday and killed one person at the market square. About 10 buildings were also burnt by these masked security agents on Friday.
“Imo State is not safe presently; Governor Hope Uzodinma shouldn’t allow soldiers to kill all his people,” a source told SaharaReporters on Monday.
IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, had in December 2020 launched ESN to protect the people of South-East and South-South regions from terrorists and bandits allegedly trooping in from the North.
Kanu described the outfit as a replica of the Western Nigeria Security Network, also known as Amotekun, earlier launched by the governors of the South-West to curb insecurity in the region.

E2%80%93-sunday-igboho I’m Not Interested In Becoming Amotekun South-West Commander – Sunday Igboho

The Yoruba freedom fighter and youth leader, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, on Tuesday said he was not interested in becoming the commander of the Amotekun Corps, as speculated.
Igboho was reacting to a speculation that one of the resolutions proposed by South-West governors during their meeting in Akure, Ondo State on Monday was to appoint Igboho as the overall commandant of the corps in the region.

There has been speculation that after the meeting, one of the governors tipped Igboho to oversee all South-West states, and beyond to Kwara and Kogi states for an initial period of five years, with the clear mandate to rid all Yorubaland and forests of criminals.
It was further speculated that his office would be situated in Ibadan, Oyo State, with the paraphernalia of office that would be equivalent to that of a Deputy Inspector General of Police.
But Igboho, while fielding questions from journalists on Tuesday over the speculation, said: “I am not interested in being the commander of Amotekun. I don’t seek such relevance. What I am saying is that the Fulani herders that are terrorising my people should leave the area.
“We want peace and that is all. I don’t need any political appointment or money from anybody. We only want peace in our area.”
One of Igboho’s houses in Ibadan early Tuesday morning.
The Ibarapa-born activist has been in the news since last week when he gave Fulani herdsmen in the Ibarapa area of Oyo State seven days to leave, blaming them for the worsening cases of kidnapping and killing in the state.
He also accused the Seriki Fulani of Igangan community in Ibarapa, Alhaji Saliu Abdulkadir, of colluding with the suspected killer herdsmen and taking shares from the ransoms they get from families of their abducted victims.
Some days after he gave the ultimatum, the residence and cars of the Seriki Fulani were burnt and the Fulani leader and his family had to flee for their lives.
The police in Oyo State had said Igboho was however instrumental to the violence which occurred last week in Igangan.

60-year-old Woman Arraigned With Five Minors For Allegedly Bewitching Three-year-old Girl In Adamawa

File photo used to illustrate story.

A 60-year-old woman, Halima Jonta, is among seven self-confessed ‘witches’, who were charged to court for allegedly inflicting a three-year-old girl with sickness in Adamawa State.
Other persons charged along with Jonta were five minors and one other woman said to be at large.

File photo

The 60-year-old and the minors were brought to the Area Court 1, Yola, by a community leader and Sarkin Mayu Adamawa, Kabiru Garba, after he learnt about the state of health of the three-year-old girl.
Jonta confessed to the court that she and two other women had killed seven people in the seven years she had been practising witchcraft.
In the case of the afflicted girl, Jonta said she and the five minors, aged between four and six years, as well as a woman on the run, had bewitched her.
The girl was brought to court by her parents, looking very ill.
The kid ‘witches’ confessed to the court that the old woman, Jonta and the other woman now at large, asked them to tie the three-year-old spiritually and put a stone in her stomach.
They also said the soul of a dead person was planted in her.
“With the soul of the dead in her, she can’t live a normal life,” they added.
They said they had untied her and removed the stone in her but that the curse remained because removing it was beyond their power.
They explained that it was the woman at large, identified simply as Dudu, who could remove the curse.
Ruling on the matter with particular reference to the alleged kid witches, the Criminal Area Court 1 judge, Umar Gangs, expressed worry that little children still far from adulthood had been introduced into witchcraft.
He ordered that Dudu should be found by all means and brought before the court and gave the accused a 24-hour ultimatum to remove all that they had inflicted the three-old-girl with and restore her to perfect health.

Again, Buhari Blocks Nigerians From Commenting On His Twitter Posts

President Muhammadu Buhari has again locked the comment section for tweets on his verified Twitter account, @MBuhari.
Twitter had introduced the moderation tool in May 2020, to allow users control trolls, irrelevant, insulting or disagreeable comments on their posts.

A check by SaharaReporters on Buhari’s Twitter page showed that the President can only have one-sided conversations on the social media platform.
All the tweets he sent out from January 15, 2021 could no longer be commented on by Nigerians who always took advantage of the app to express their grievances or support for government policies.
An attempt by SaharaReporters to reply to his latest post announcing the sacking of service chiefs was not successful.
A message from twitter popped up saying only those mentioned in the tweet can reply.
“I have accepted the immediate resignation of the Service Chiefs, and their retirement from service. I thank them all for their overwhelming achievements in our efforts at bringing enduring peace to Nigeria, and wish them well in their future endeavours.I have also appointed new Service Chiefs, to replace the retired officers: Major-General Leo Irabor, Chief of Defence StaffMajor-General I. Attahiru, Chief of Army StaffRear Admiral A.Z Gambo, Chief of Naval StaffAir-Vice Marshal I.O Amao, Chief of Air Staff.— Muhammadu Buhari (@MBuhari) January 26, 2021

This is however not the first time tweets by Buhari could not be replied to.
A check by SaharaReporters showed that the President blocked Nigerians from commenting on his Twitter posts in September and November 2020.
Buhari has also since stopped people from tagging him on another social media platform, Instagram.

Buhari Too Should Go Now! By Kunle Wizeman Ajayi

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari

After committing several crimes against humanity through LekkiMassacre, Oyigbo Massacre, Shiites killings, and the recent Orlu murders; General Buratai and his cohorts serving President Buhari and the APC and their cruel wars just resigned.
It is not amazing as the Service Chiefs are supposed to be arrested immediately for all these crimes. Major Adeniyi and other soldiers who have been wrongly prosecuted for saying the hard truths should be released unconditionally!

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari

REUTERS/SHANNON STAPLETON

But in all of these, President Buhari should resign too!
He has failed in all duties as president especially in the three sectors in the APC manifesto: Anti-Corruption; Economy, and Security. All three have been minuses for such a government of impunity.
While we ask Buhari to join the outgoing service chiefs, he is a point of contact to all our rulers accross the length and breadth. They have all failed! Naira is devalued and worthless. Oil is deregulated and only oil merchants are happy. We want a country where majority of millions of people will be happy, not a tiny few.
What we need now is a new Nigeria that is away from war and want. We must do away with greed and power and all policies of the oppressors. All oppressed should unite whether Igbo or Fulani as it is those in power that are the root causes of the crimes and clashes that we witness everywhere. No people in Nigeria is spared from the madness of these rogues in power. This is why we must take away this thieving class and take back power to the ordinary people.
Buhari is obviously a failure. He must go now!
