E2%80%99s-problems-far-beyond-restructuring-sanusi-says Nigeria’s Problems Far Beyond Restructuring, Sanusi Says
The 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, on Wednesday, cautioned against perceiving agitation for restructuring as a call for secession, civil war, and division that would further disunite the country.
Sanusi said though restructuring is essential, some of Nigeria’s problems are beyond restructuring.
He spoke at Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti during the 24th Convocation Lecture of the institution on Wednesday, Punch reports.
Sanusi, who is EKSU chancellor, in his remark, said, “There is a difference between restructuring and secession. There is a difference between restructuring and division. There is a difference between restructuring and civil war. Some are using ethnic profiling to divide us. Ethnicity and religion are mere identities; they don’t represent our values and who we indeed are.
“Nigeria has problems that are far more beyond restructuring, though restructuring is important, let us follow the rules and build a strong system through our strong moral values and approaches to issues.”
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, who delivered the convocation lecture entitled, ‘Restructuring and the liberation of Nigeria,’ said, “The way forward is that the struggle for restructuring and liberation of the poor people of Nigeria from the bondage of poverty and inequality requires the adoption of vertical and horizontal measures to build a peaceful and united Nigeria rooted in social justice, equity, and genuine freedom.”
The human rights lawyer charged governors genuinely interested in restructuring to “democratise the powers that have devolved to state governments from the centre through litigation”.
EKSU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Edward Olanipekun, said, “The Nigerian nation, perhaps because of the colonial mode of evolution remains contentious leading to continuous agitation for restructuring even in the extreme the dissolution of the union 60 years after independence.”

Assistant Director Seeks Governor Akeredolu’s Intervention Over Unjust Suspension By Civil Service Commission
Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu
Temitope Adeola Fakuade, an assistant director with the Ondo State Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, is seeking Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s intervention for unjustified suspension and non-payment of his salary by the state’s civil service commission.
Fakuade said he was being harassed and victimized by the current commissioner for Works, Saka Yusuf Ogunleye; permanent secretary, Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, Dupe Eshofonie; and permanent secretary, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Bumi Alade.
Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu
He asked the governor to swiftly wade into the matter to ensure that justice is met.
Fakuade explained how he was suspended.
“I was the assistant director, Ministry of Youth Development and Sports before I was posted by the Service Matters Department of the Head of Service to the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Ondo State on 17th June 2019. In the said letter of posting, the permanent secretary was directed to assign duty to me within the ministry.”The permanent secretary, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Mr Bumi Alade did not accept me in the ministry. As a result of this, I forwarded a letter to the office of the Permanent Secretary complaining about his refusal to accept me in line with the letter of posting from the Service Matters Department of the Head of Service.”To my utmost surprise, I received a query from the permanent secretary, Economic Planning and Budget accusing me of gross misconduct for not honouring posting instruction.”I responded adequately to the query intimating them of the fact that I reported in line with the posting instruction to the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget but was not assigned duty and accepted.”Though, the failure to accept me was not unconnected to the fact that I declined that Mr Bumi Alade should not intervene in a personal issue that I have with one Mr Adamu Monday as he pleaded to intervene. He claimed I have dis-honoured him by doing so. I immediately reported this ugly incident to the Head of Service in my representation dated 16/9/2019 which was also copied the Civil Service Commission, Ondo State, the Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress and the Chairman, Nigeria Civil Service Union.”It was regrettably said, that rather than treating and addressing my complaint, I was greeted with a letter of suspension by the commission which letter is dated 24/10/2019 without the commission inviting me for any investigation on all allegations levelled against me in the suspension letter except the issue of financial embarrassment. I copiously informed the commission, which they agreed with me, that it was a personal matter and not a civil service issue. More so, that the matter is before the competent court of law.”In the said letter of suspension, the allegations levelled against me are (i) disobedience to lawful orders/instructions (ii) absence from duty without leave (iii) insubordination: and (iv) financial embarrassment. None of those allegations can be proved against me neither was I invited to explain my side of the issue at the commission before I was suspended save for the financial embarrassment aspect which I was cleared of.”My salary and other emoluments have been withheld. The pains and agonies that this injustice caused me are becoming too excessive. This is the height of victimization, discrimination and inhuman treatment being meted out on me since 2014.”I am keenly imploring you sir as the “people’s governor” to swiftly wade into this matter to ensure that the justice of this matter is met. You are my hope as a downtrodden in this matter.”Speaking to SaharaReporters, Fakuade said he had been asked to retire compulsory, and his salary had been stopped.”For over a year, they have stopped my salary; funnily, they asked me to retire compulsorily, because I refused to go their way,” he said.

Bandits Kill Three Zamfara Traders After Collecting N6m, Motorcycles
Bandits have killed three Zamfara traders despite collecting N6 million and three brand new motorbikes as ransom, according to Daily Trust.
The murdered traders were part of the 13 traders from the Dansadau community who were kidnapped three weeks ago while travelling in an 18-seater bus at Mashayar Zaki along Gusau-Dansadau road, 82 km north of Gusau, the state capital.
Daily Trust reported that the kidnappers contacted families of the victims four days later and demanded N80 million ransom for their release.
A brother of one of the traders, Alhaji Yau Dansadau, said they managed to negotiate for N10 million ransom.
“About N10 million was found on the traders and was carted away by the abductors,” he said. “After N5 million was delivered to them, they released 2 of the kidnapped victims with a promise to release the rest the following day. The freed victims can’t walk following severe injuries they sustained on their legs after they were chained for many days,” he added.
“They carried the victims on motorbikes and brought them to Hannu Tara area just 2km north of the very spot they kidnapped them,” he continued. “The victims are now responding to treatment at a medical facility. One of the kidnapped victims, Ali Laudi, told us that three of them couldn’t survive as they died in kidnappers’ custody.”
One of the victims, Bello Dansadau, said that they were blindfolded and chained for all the days they spent in the kidnappers’ den and could not walk because of the severe injuries on their legs.
“We saw hell,” Bello said. “It was a terrible moment for us. Even when we are going to ease ourselves, we would be asked to go blindfolded. I will not wish this condition even on my enemy.”

E2%80%93-aisha-yesufu B’Haram Coming For Southern Nigeria When Done With North – Aisha Yesufu
Aisha Yesufu
Human rights activist and a co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirls Movement, Aisha Yesufu, has warned that the Boko Haram terrorists would attack southern Nigeria once they have destroyed the northern part of the country.
She noted that fighting terrorism is everyone’s business and should be condemned by all and sundry.
Aisha Yesufu
In a tweet on Wednesday, Yesufu said, “When Boko Haram is done with the North, they will face the South. If you think this is none of your business, some thought it wasn’t their business when it was happening in North-East, now it is. Terrorist attack to anyone anywhere is a terrorist attack to everyone everywhere.”When Boko haram are done with the North they will face the South. If you think this is none of your business, some thought it wasn’t their business when it was happening in North East now it is.Terrorist attack to anyone anywhere is terrorist attack to everyone everywhere— Aisha Yesufu (@AishaYesufu) December 15, 2020
She said this against the backdrop of the abduction of 333 boys abducted in Kankara, Katsina State by the Boko Haram terrorists last Friday.
The horrible incident was the latest among horrendous assaults of the insurgents ravaging the northern part of the country, which began in Borno State in 2009.
Yesufu’s statement has, however, drawn mixed reactions from Nigerians.
Some of the respondents said that the Northern leaders always see the agenda of the southerners against bad governance as a threat to the North, citing the case of the EndSARS protests, in which the northern governors were against the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
Here are the reactions below:
But we can’t cry more than the bereaved. when SARS started misbehaving, we cried out for help, and others join. The case is always different when it comes to the North, the South, East and West will cry out only to realize that the Northerners are silent as usual. What can we do?— Ogagbayi Temidayo (@Ogagbayidayo) December 15, 2020
I bet with my life Boko Haram can’t come to Igbo Land and kill and still escape Igbo Land. We have a way to counter such without the help of security agent. North should forget about security agent fish out who are the Boko Haram because they are not spirit rather humans in North— Nagode INASONKI (@akunnenonso) December 15, 2020

Stop guilt-tripping the South over northern wahala. When SARS is killing youths in the South is it their problem?Let them face their demons,we’re facing ours. They control all the security apparatus & can’t secure their homes, what do you want us to do,use Selena to fight BH?— Crown Prince of Abuja (@UkoAkpanEtuk) December 15, 2020
I think northern Muslims parents need to do more in parenting…..say no to almajeri, every children must be in school, monitor the kind of message the children are receiving in mosques, Islamic school, and the kind of Islamic books they read, monitor their book stores.— WisdomJosephA (@WisdomJosephA1) December 15, 2020

E2%80%99s-indictment Appeal Court Nullifies Dasuki’s Indictment
Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd)
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has set aside the indictments delivered against the former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki, in a judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja which convicted and sentenced a former spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, for money laundering.
A three-person panel led by Justice Stephen Adah held in a unanimous judgment delivered, on Wednesday, that the Federal High Court made damaging comments against Dasuki without giving him a fair hearing.
Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd)

Justice Adah held that Dasuki was not being charged as a co-defendant in the case or given any opportunity to defend himself and that the comments made against Dasuki were unwarranted.
The panel had in an earlier judgment on Wednesday set aside Metuh’s conviction on the grounds of bias shown by the trial judge Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court.
It, therefore, ordered that the trial be conducted afresh.
Justice Abang directed that the case file be sent back to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court for reassignment to another judge other than Justice Abang, Punch reports.

The meeting, which held at the Presidential Palace in N’Djamena, was also attended by the Chadian Ambassador to Nigeria, Abakar Chahaimi, as well as the Nigerian Ambassador to Chad, Zannah Kolo.

BREAKING: Buhari Orders Reopening Of Land Borders
President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the immediate reopening of the nation’s land borders.
Nigeria, the largest economy and the most prosperous of the 15-member Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), had last August closed its land borders over the proliferation of illegal importation of drugs, small arms and agricultural products into the country from neighbouring West African countries.
The closure was, however, greeted by mixed reactions from professional organizations, economists and individuals.
Heads of countries like Ghana and Benin Republic had also appealed to the President to reconsider the closure but Buhari maintained that the borders would remain closed until the final report of the committee set up on the matter was considered.
But speaking shortly after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday, Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed announced the immediate reopening of four land borders.
The borders are Seme in the southwest, Illela in Sokoto State, Maigatari in the northwest, and Mfun in the south-south.
She said other land borders are to be opened by December 31, 2020.

Insecurity: Video Shows IPOB Security Operatives With Guns During Patrol
Operatives of the recently inaugurated Eastern Security Network have been spotted carrying guns while on patrol, a viral video showed on Wednesday.
The leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, launched ESN last week Saturday as a security outfit “to protect the South-East and South-South regions of the country from criminal activities.”
According to the video which has gone viral, a voice in the background showed that the ESN members were from the Anambra command.

Recall that at the creation of the ESN, Kanu disclosed that the new security apparatus was not different from the Amotekun established by the South-West governors to defend their territory against the worsening security challenges in the country.
SaharaReporters had earlier reported that the Afenifere backed the creation of the ESN, when the National Public Secretary, Yinka Odumakin, said the federal police could not handle the security challenges in the country.

Odumakin noted that the country, hence, had to go back to the era of regional policing.
The recent episode of the rising insecurity was the abduction of at least 333 schoolboys by the Boko Haram terrorists on Saturday in Kankara, Katsina State, during the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari.
