Taraba Residents Invade, Loot COVID-19 Warehouse

Residents of Jalingo, Taraba State, have discovered and looted a COVID-19 palliatives warehouse in the state.
This follows a similar trend of discovery and looting in some states across the country.

The looting of COVID-19 warehouse started from Lagos and has extended to states like Oyo, Osun, Plateau, Edo and Kwara.
It was gathered that the residents overpowered security operatives, who watched helplessly as the people made away with different food items.
The looting, which started in the evening, continued till 9pm as more people came for their share of the hoarded palliatives.
In videos of the looting obtained by SaharaReporters, residents could be seen driving tricycles and cars as well as pushing carts into the warehouse for easy carriage of the food items.

Taraba state palliative warehouse has also been found. I’m having second thoughts about this I mean who is giving out the locations of these warehouses and why? Most of all why everywhere at the same time? I think there is something fishy about this whole situation. pic.twitter.com/n0LD9V2FpN— Sammy_george (@GeorgeSammann) October 24, 2020

However, there are reports of a stampede as more people trooped into the warehouse.
About two people are feared dead as the looting went on unhindered.

The #ENDSARS protests, which went on for at least two weeks in Nigeria, was met with stiff suppression by the Nigerian Government.
The government initially hired thugs to attack the protesters before sending in police and army to violently disperse demonstators, leading to death and injury of many.
The army engaged the protesters at Lekki, killing about 10 of them.
This led to nationwide unrest with state governments imposing curfew in a bid to restore normalcy.

C3%A9-wins-third-term-amid-violent-protests Guinea President, Alpha Condé, Wins Third Term Amid Violent Protests

Alpha Conde

Incumbent Alpha Conde has won Guinea’s disputed presidential election with 59.5 per cent of the vote to secure a controversial third term.
According to Aljazeera, the announcement on Saturday came after days of deadly violence in the wake of the October 18 vote.

The opposition says 27 people have been killed, while officials have put the death toll at about 10.
The victory, which requires confirmation by the Constitutional Court, gives a third term in office to the 82-year-old after a bitterly fought election in which the opposition said he had no right to participate.
Conde says a constitutional referendum in March reset his two-term limit, but opponents say he is breaking the law by holding on to power.
Results were announced in batches in recent days and already showed Conde with an unassailable lead, sparking street protests in opposition strongholds.
Opposition candidate Cellou Dalein Diallo, Conde’s nearest rival with 33.5 per cent of the vote, said he has evidence of fraud and plans to file a complaint with the Constitutional Court.
Under the law, complaints must be filed within eight days of the preliminary results.
Doubting the independence of the electoral authority, 68-year-old Diallo had on Monday declared  the winner of the first round of voting before the results were announced, which triggered confrontations between his supporters and security forces.
Protesters took to the streets of the capital, Conakry, again on Saturday and residents of some suburbs said police officers were firing teargas canisters to clear them off.

Another Kannywood Star Asks Northerners To Attack Aisha Yesufu, Calls #ENDSARS Protesters Infidels

Another Kannywood star, Zahradeen Sani, has called on Northerners to attack rights activist and co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls movement, Aisha Yesufu.
The actor also labelled Nigerians demanding an end to police brutality and reform of the law enforcement agency as infidels.

Since the start of #EndSARS protest, Kannywood stars have been taking to social media to discredit the movement, calling those, who joined the agitation as bad Muslims that must be dealt with.
Sani, an ardent supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, in a video shared on social media accused the protesters of planning to disrupt the country.
He also said they were using the #ENDSARS protest to promote terrorism in the Northern part of the country, adding that they “must be attacked wherever they are found”.
In the video that has gone viral on social media, Sani repeatedly cursed Yesufu and accused her of being an agent of Christians and against the teachings of Islam.
He called Yesufu an “agent of Jews” and said she must be attacked by fellow Northerners for her stand during the protest.
Earlier, another Kannywood star, Zainab Abdullahi, had called on Northerners to attack and kill Yesufu for constantly criticising President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Soldiers Brutalise Medical Doctor, Order Him To Bathe Inside Gutter In Delta State

File Photo

Soldiers suspected to be attached to the 3 Battalion Nigerian Army, Effurun, Delta State, on Saturday allegedly brutalised a medical doctor and ordered him to swim and bathe inside a gutter full of dirty water.
The soldiers, who were said to be enforcing the state government’s curfew, SaharaReporters gathered, confronted the medical doctor, Raphael Onyemekehia, a consultant physician, at Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state, at about 10:30am and despite introducing himself and showing his identity card, he was allegedly brutalised and ordered to swim and bathe inside the dirty gutter in the area.
It was gathered that the inhuman act, which attracted outrage from members of the public, was done at gunpoint while the victim was going to work.

File Photo

The state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, had exempted essential workers including medical personnel while imposing a 48-hour curfew across the state to curb violence in the city following the wanton destruction of properties by thugs, who hijacked the peaceful #EndSARS protest.
Our correspondent learnt that all efforts by Onyemekehia to explain to the soldiers that medical personnel were exempted from the curfew fell on deaf ears and the soldiers forced him into the gutter to swim and bathe after being threatened with a gun.
According a source, who witnessed the scenario, Onyemekehia spent close to 30 minutes swimming and bathing in the gutter while the soldiers watched on before he was saved by a senior military officer, who freed him.
Meanwhile the Delta State chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association, has threatened to embark on indefinite strike if the Nigerian Army failed to identify, fish out and prosecute those, who perpetrated the act to serve as deterrent to other soldiers.
Chairman of the NMA in the state, Emmanuel Nwose, who confirmed the ugly incident, condemned in its entirely the act, saying that the association had since briefed the state governor of the development.
He said, “Dr Raphael Onyemekehia, a consultant physician, reported to us that on his way to work, he was confronted at Airport Junction, Effurun, by some unidentified soldiers that he has violated the state government curfew imposes by the state governor. At this point he introduced himself and showed them his ID but they didn’t listen to him. The next thing was they started beating him, and was ordered to enter the gutter to swim and bath.
“As he was swimming in the gutter he was being brutalised until a senior army officer came and saw them maltreating him and saved him. We can no longer accept this over bearing attitude of some of this overzealous uniform men. Enough of all this nonsense by all these uniform men. We are doctors and as doctors we are essential workers because of the kind of services we render as such when curfew are imposed we are exempted.”

E2%80%94wole-soyinka I Never Asked Igbo To Leave Yorubaland —Wole Soyinka

Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, on Saturday said he never asked the Igbo to leave the South-Western part of Nigeria as claimed in some quarters.
The playwright, in a message seen by SaharaReporters, asked Nigerians to ignore the ‘social media dregs’.

Nigeria Back To ‘Abacha Days’, Says Soyinka

He said, “Undoubtedly in order to promote the video clip of an ethnic revanchist calling on Igbo to leave Yoruba land, this same lunatic fringe has exhumed, and embarked on circulating an ancient fabrication – several years mouldering in the grave – once attributed to me and vigorously denounced.
“That statement impudently expounds, as my utterance, what the Hausa want, what the Yoruba want, and what the Igbo want.  Such  an attribution – let me once again reiterate – is the work of sick, cowardly minds that are ashamed, or lack the courage, as the saying goes, “to answer their fathers’ names.” At least the current ethnic rabble-rouser has the courage of his convictions, not so the sick brigade of identity thieves.
“Normally, one should totally ignore the social dregs. However, in the present atmosphere where fake news is so easily swallowed and acted upon without reflection, I feel once again obliged to denounce this recurrent obscenity. As for our brother and sister Igbo, I hope they have learnt to ignore the toxic bilge under which some Nigerian imbeciles seek to drown the nation.
“It is time also, I believe, to also enter the following admonition: one cannot continue to monitor and respond to the concoctions of these addicts of falsehood, and their assiduous promoters who have yet to learn to wipe the filth off their tablets. The patrons of  social platforms should develop the art of discrimination.  Some attributions are simply so gross that, to grant them even a moment’s latitude of probability diminishes the civic intelligence of the recipient.”

AAC Condemns Attacks On Properties By Thugs To Demean #ENDSARS Protest

The Kwara State Chapter of the African Action Congress has condemned the attack on private and government properties by thugs, who hijacked the #ENDSARS protest.
Like in other states, the hoodlums in Kwara engaged in destruction and looting spree under the guise of being part of the #ENDSARS protest.
The party also berated the state governor, AbdulRasaq AbdulRaman, over the discovery of stored COVID-19 palliatives in a warehouse.

AAC Kwara in a statement jointly signed by Buhari Olanrewaju Ahmed, Chairman; and Olayemi Abayomi Khabeer, Public Relations Officer; the party said it condemned attacks on people’s properties by the thugs.
“In emancipation for good governance and accountability, transparency and justice, African Action Congress condemns the attacks, looting and vandalism on people’s properties by street urchins who have hijacked peaceful protests in the state.
“The African Action Congress uses this medium to condemn the act of impunity and attacks on people’s properties by the hoodlums who have hijacked the peaceful protests in the state.
“We call on all the security agencies in the state especially, the commissioner of police for prompt actions, with immediate investigations into what happened last night at the mall and other affected places in the state,” the party said.
Knocking Governor Abdulrahman, AAC Kwara condemned his administration for deliberately refusing to share COVID-19 palliatives donated to the state during the Coronavirus outbreak period.
The party added, “It is worrisome that the Kwara State Government deliberately kept these palliatives for APC to share at the grass-root level across the state.
“Those palliatives are kept at warehouses for their families and political associates.
“The deceitful system coupled with naivety in crisis management escalated to a situation where hoodlums overpowered security operatives in the state.
“As a political party with fantastic and robust ideologies in the state, we won’t close our eyes to allow lawlessness to take place in our dear state.
“If Governor AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman is weak and confused on how to govern the state, he should honourably resign and allow the competent people with experience to pilot the affairs of the state.”
AAC urged the government to ensure justice for unarmed protesters that were killed and injured during the peaceful protests in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The party also implored all youths and residents of the state to remain law-abiding.

Dear Femi Adesina, If Nigeria Dies, Failed Leaders Killed Her! By Pelumi Olugbenga

Femi Adesina

Injustice breeds nothing but pains in the hearts of its victims. To the orchestrators of injustices, the hues and cries of those at the receiving end are nothing but amplified noises. In reality, however, these hues and cries come from a place of real-time hurt, pains and heartbreak.
I just finished reading Femi Adeshina’s latest article on the #EndSARS protest, and the first thing that jumped out of me is the erroneous way he painted the Buhari administration as a victim of hate. Contrary to what Adeshina wants us to believe, the current nationwide unrest facing the Buhari administration is not a product of hate but a product of the administration’s ineptitude, arrogance and sycophancy.  Protests against the activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS) have been on for years – as far back as 2016, at least. In response to series of these protests that were largely online until October, 2020, the Presidency dumped on the Nigerian populace: different annual press statements that claimed SARS had been ”disbanded or overhauled”.  Weeks after these press statements were made, the only thing that changed about SARS was the synonyms the Nigerian government used for its subsequent press releases – on purported reforms or dissolution following persistent public outcries.
If Femi Adeshina and his ilk in the presidency had taken governance seriously by truly disbanding or reforming SARS in 2017, 2018, or even in 2019 – millions of young Nigerians would have had no reason to occupy the streets of their motherland protesting against SARS brutality in 2020.  Mr. Adeshina’s attempt to obfuscate the public and absolve the presidency of the blame for the violence that occurred over the past few days – including the gruesome killing of unarmed, peaceful and patriotic young Nigerians by the Nigerian army in Lekki is the height of insensitivity.

Femi Adesina

Nigerian leaders are great drama kings and queens. They enhance a system that breeds hoodlums, thugs and touts for political reasons. Yet, they still turn around to blame peaceful protesters for the well sponsored and coordinated activities of their boys from the hood.  They purposely impoverish millions of able-bodied men and women in Nigeria because their continued state of poverty, ’agberoism’ and ’hoodlumship’ are exactly what these heartless politicians need to maintain their grip on power. Think about it. If there were no ’agberos’, street urchins or hoodlums in Lagos, Abuja and other parts of the country, these greedy political elites would have had a tough time mobilizing cerebral university graduates with #1000 to disrupt peaceful protests or even stage a shameful march in their favor.  The constant availability and use of these exploited  class of Nigerians for political gains explain why those at the corridors of power will want the system to remain this way. They see these ’agberos’, street urchins and hoodlums as their ’brothers’ – not because they truly love them albeit they are mere willing tools strategic to their grip on power. If this exploited Nigerians are truly their brothers – then they will create opportunities that will educate and empower them. Shared prosperity always stimulates socio-economic equality and a more equal Nigeria will pose a threat to the greedy hegemons in power: who instead prefer a status-quo that enables them to budget more money for themselves than the entire country’s health and education sectors.
The massacre that took place at the Lekki Toll Gate on the 20th of October; is personal to me and millions of other young Nigerians. Hundreds of young Nigerians had gathered at the venue with the common goal of calling for change: police and government accountability to the people. Yet, we watched on live video, how our unarmed; peaceful brothers and sisters were sprayed with live bullets by Nigerian military officers even when these patriotic innocent young Nigerians continued to sing the country’s national anthem. The Lekki Massacre has left millions of young Nigerians heartbroken and hurt. Many of us harbour hate in our heart for the perpetrators of such a crime against humanity.  Hence, if elites like Femi Adeshina want to talk about hate with a view to addressing it – let them focus more on the injustices that have been meted out at people and less on how they reacted to it. Leaders who think acquiescing to the years-long genuine demands of young people translate to being weak are not fit to talk about hate, fairness and justice.
The current attempts by those at the corridor of power to downplay and allegedly cover-up the severity of the events that took place at the Lekki Toll Gate will only make it more difficult(if not impossible) for young Nigerians to heal from the terror that was unleashed on their compatriots.
The political elites may choose to see this moment as a schadenfreude albeit a false relief from a massive youth-led movement that threatened to take away their selfish privileges funded by misappropriated public funds. In the end, no matter how long a reign of greed, inequality, corruption and ineptitude may last, the will of the people will ultimately prevail. Undoubtedly, the power of the people is stronger than the people in power!
To every young Nigerian across the world, we must remain proud of ourselves on how far we have come. In less than two weeks, we raised millions of naira, built our own ecosystem, communication channels and accounted for every kobo without collapsing on live television or having to switch off our mics. Moving forward, we must stay united, restrategize and continue to peacefully demand justice for our compatriots whose lives were cut short by instruments of the state. We must also continue to push for a system that respects the dignity of every Nigerian and ensures shared prosperity in our motherland.  The Nigerian dream must be the desire and limitless possibilities to excel in our Naija cities and not the dehumanizing struggle for Canadian, European or American passports. We must equally not give room for wanton destruction of public and private properties – we hurt our communities by encouraging such. We are a chosen generation; a different bred of Nigerians and we must make that clear to all and sundry.  For this generation of young Nigerians: in brotherhood, we will always stand! because without justice for the people, there can never be peace for the greedy, heartless and wicked! No Justice; No Peace!
#JusticeForVictimsOfLekkiMassacre.

Governor Sanwo-Olu Aware Of Plans By Soldiers From Bonny Camp To Attack, Kill Lekki Protesters

Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu

The plan to use soldiers from Bonny Camp, Victoria Island, Lagos, to attack and kill peaceful protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate area of the city on Tuesday may not be without the knowledge of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu after all, fresh facts at the disposal of SaharaReporters have indicated.
Shortly after the governor declared a round-the-clock curfew in the state, some persons were captured on camera dismantling the CCTV attached to the toll gate, one of the main convergence points for young Nigerians demanding an end to police brutality and state repression.

Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu

As nightfall crept across the landscape, most of the street lighting around the area were suddenly turned off.
Minutes later, heavily armed Nigerian Army personnel moved into the scene to complete the plan.
By the time sounds of their guns died down, dozens of protesters had been killed.

While Amnesty International put the number of deaths at 10, eyewitnesses said that the figure is far higher.
According to a source, over 90 persons were killed across Lagos alone during the violence that erupted after Tuesday night’s incident but there are ongoing efforts by the government to conceal this fact.
One victim of the Lekki shooting will have one of his legs amputated tomorrow due to the extent of damage sustain during the attack.
Though Governor Sanwo-Olu blamed ‘forces beyond our control’ for the attack and insured that he had no authority over military engagements, available facts at the disposal of this medium indicate that the governor is being economical with the truth.
