Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has said that the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, ordered him to leave Edo State on the eve of the September 19 governorship election.
Wike said this on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Friday.
According to the governor, who was the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship campaign, the IGP called him on the telephone and ordered him to leave Edo immediately but that the police boss could not respond when he asked why Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State and Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, members of All Progressives Congress, were allowed to remain in the state.

He said, “The IG never saw me outside. I was inside my room and I got a call from the IG that I must leave Edo State. What surprised me was why should I leave Edo State? I am the chairman of the campaign council and the chairman does not mean that after the campaign, you leave. No, you must monitor what is going on so that at the end of the day, you would be able to write your report.
“When our sister, Joi Nunieh (the former NDDC Acting MD), was to be abducted, IG was not happy about my intervention.
“He called me and I asked him how could you allow a woman to be taken away at 4:00am knowing the security situation in the country today? Why didn’t you invite her?”
Wike said he does not regret his action because the police were wrong to have attempted to arrest Nunieh the day she was to give evidence at the National Assembly.

The State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has suspended Governor Kayode Fayemi, a report by Channels TV said.
According to a statement released by the party on Friday, the governor was suspended due to “his numerous anti-party activities, especially his role in the recently concluded governorship election in Edo State which is contrary to the provisions of Article 21 (A) (ii) of the APC constitution”.

The party claimed that Governor Fayemi hosted PDP member, Mr Femi Fani- Kayode, in the Government House in Ado Ekiti in the run-up to the Edo elections and also played a role in the gubernatorial election in Oyo State where he supported the PDP candidate to defeat the APC candidate.

Would it be honourable and fair to pass the current state of our nation to the next generation just the way our parents ceded it to us?
The reality of the matter is that Nigeria as a nation should be a Watchtower to the entire black world because it has the resources and the manpower which if correctly utilized should be standing shoulder to shoulder with any of the great Nations of the world but issues like; plundering of resources, squandering of riches, nepotism, greed, corruption, tribalism, and lack of vision continues to be our bane.
Our beloved nation Nigeria is in dire need for a great change, a change in mentality and behavioural patterns. A paradigm shift from the bad system. We can’t expect a different result doing the same thing, the same way again and again. A new Nigeria requires a revolution of values, a change of plan and great minds that are ready to bring change. “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter” – Martin Luther King Jr.

Our heroes past fought to free us from slavery and now we must emancipate ourselves from mental slavery. They fought to free us from colonialism and now we must free our nation from regionalism. They fought for independence, now we must fight for progress and unity. A new Nigeria we seek, a new Nigeria we must get.

Remembering Thomas Sankara of Burkina Faso, the visionary demonstrated that only the people can change their circumstances with the support of a pro-people government that is committed to serving the majority, not the political and business elites.
Captain Thomas Sankara was an example of good leadership and true depiction of Africanism. He built roads and a railway to tie the nation together, without foreign aid. He redistributed land from the rich and gave it directly to the peasants. Wheat production rose in just three years from 1700kg a hectare to 3800kg a hectare, making the country food self-sufficient over a mere three years.
Sankara opposed foreign aid, saying “he who feeds you, controls you”. He converted the Army’s provisioning store into a state-owned supermarket open to everyone (the first supermarket in the country). He outlawed female genital mutilation, forced marriages and polygamy in support of Women’s rights. Can our leaders in power and outside power draw a lesson from Sankara who laid this few legacies among others with only four years in power?
Our country is in a deep political, economic and moral crises. The youths suffer while their leaders fight over positions. The strength of any nation is in its youths but here they are often made to watch the political and leadership affairs of their nation from the political gallery. A country where the leadership tirelessly abuse the populace in numerous ways and turn around to accuse them of not being patriotic.
A good example of good leadership and vibrant nation is Italy. Recently, the Italians voted in a referendum to cut the size of the country’s parliament by more than a third. Almost 70% of people voted in favour of the change, with almost all votes counted. The number of MPs in the lower house will be reduced from 634 to 400. The senate will also be downsized. Ours is to keep duplicating MDA’s and creating irrelevant new one’s to settle cronies at the detriment of the National purse.
Going forward, let us strive to eliminate conflicts of interest and build a system whereby the President of our countries in Africa will be guided by the constitution and reduce drastically interfering with independent institutions like the: judiciary, legislative and electoral bodies.
We don’t need leaders who see themselves as champions of only some regions of our population. We don’t need leaders who are more interested in silencing their opponents than in pursuing justice. We don’t need leaders who don’t practice what they preach.
We need leaders who, in paddling the affairs of the nation, shall institutionalize the principles of fairness and equality. We don’t need leaders who place themselves above the constitution and the laws of the country, but leaders who lead by upholding and respecting the law.
When and if a wrong set of persons find their way into leadership of a nation they tend to see their positions as compensation for their role in candidate’s ascension to power.
It’s time to wake up and smell the coffee men of a good conscience, people who are more Nigerian than religious, people who believe in nationalism over regionalism and people who will discourage favouritism and encourage meritocracy regardless of region or religion.
Let us be dissatisfied with fraudulent elections, system collapse and eliminate corrupt tendencies in our country. Let’s make October 1st Revolution Day a reality. In the Nigeria situation presently; families are going through excruciating pain, paying the price for inefficiency, ineptitude, cluelessness, recklessness, nepotism and corruption. Nigerians should be prepared for resistance and be circumspect about the reality of our country. The Labour Union and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria seems to have woken up from its self-induced slumber, we owe it a duty to keep our eyes open.
And should try renegade and be bought over, Nigerians should be prepared for resistance and take full responsibility. Recently, the Industrial National Court granted an order of interim injunction restraining the Unions, their officers, affiliates, privies or howsoever described from embarking on any Nationwide strike.
It seems they want to serve the masses another familiar well-played script. If NLC/TUC truly intend going on protest for the hike in the prices of petrol and power, there won’t be a need to grandstand and dawdle until the Industrial court stops them. The postponement of the action till next week was just a ploy to buy more time so they might have an alibi.
“We know through painful experience that freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.” – Martin Luther King Jr. Again, let’s wake up and smell the coffee. In the history of our dear nation, the cry for a great change in every area of our national life has never been greater. If we need a new and a better Nigeria then we must demand for it.
Also recently, on Wednesday 23rd of September 2020, a group of protesters have demanded more stringent immigration laws while marching through South Africa’s capital city of Pretoria directing their anger at African immigrants particularly against Nigerian nationals for allegedly committing criminal activities and human trafficking. The march to the Nigerian Embassy trended on social media with the hashtags: #23SeptemberCleanSA and #PutSouthAfricansFirst, sparking a conversation about the ongoing protests against immigrants in South Africa.
It’s about that time we fix our country. Our people will travel less and gain more respect outside of our country. How many South Africans do we have here? The South Africans we see in Nigeria are mainly those who came here to work as expatriates. Let’s put our house in order and a stop to avoidable deaths, carnage, explosions, infrastructural decay, incessant killings, medical facilities in total comatose, education zero, Plundering of resources, squandering the riches economy and total system collapse and be a positive influence on the smaller nations of the continent.

Firm Owned By Nigerian Lawyer Who Allegedly Bribed Judges Flagged In United States For Moving Millions Of Dollars Abroad
A law firm owned by Rickey Tarfa, a senior lawyer facing trial over bribery allegations in Nigeria, has appeared in leaked suspicious activity reports filed with the United States’ Financial Crimes Enforcement Network.
Disclosing this, Premium Times unraveled new findings by FinCEN, which flagged some transactions linked to the senior politician as suspicious as it surveilled money movements within the international financial system.
According to the online medium, the SAR filed on Rickey Tarfa & Co showed 427 suspicious wire transfers, totalling $2,261,181.22, to multiple accounts within the space of six months in 2013.
These flagged transfers involving Mr Tarfa’s firm were made through his firm’s EcoBank Nigeria Plc account between May and November 2013.
AFA Press, a UK-based communications agency, received the sum of $4,359.00 into its Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) bank account during this period from Mr Tarfa’s law firm.
“This SAR is being filed because the continuation of activity for a customer of HSBC BANK PLC-LONDON, AFA PRESS LTD, who received one (1) wire transfer totalling $4,359.00 on 5/31/2013 from RICKEY TARFA AND COMPANY, a client of ECOBANK NIGERIA PLC, and who between 05/31/2013 and 11/14/2013 originated 427 wire transfers totalling $2,261,181.22 to multiple counterparties which appeared to be structured. The activity for AFA PRESS LTD and RICKEY TARFA AND COMPANY was reviewed from 05/31/2013 to 11/18/2013,” revealed the SAR.
In 2016, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission accused Tarfa of bribing judges.
In the charge filed at the Lagos State High Court, the anti-graft commission accused the lawyer of bribing two federal judges to the tune of N8.83m over a period of four years.
Court documents filed by EFCC alleged transfer of money in trances of mainly N1.5m and N500,000 from Tarfa’s bank account number 1002926967 with Zenith Bank, to Awa Ajia Nigerian Limited, a company allegedly owned by Justice Nganjiwa Ajiya of the Federal High Court.

An affidavit signed by G.O Adebola, an assistant detective commander, claimed that the lawyer started making the suspicious payments on June 27, 2012 with the sum of N1.5m from his account directly to Mr. Ajiya.
On the same day of the initial payment, Mr Tarfar, allegedly paid another N500,000.00 to Mr Ajiya.
Subsequently payment made to the judge were as follows: N500,000 paid on 6 August, 2013; N1.5m paid on 29 January 2014; N835,000 paid on 3 October 2014; N500,000 paid on 22 December, 2014; N1.5m paid on Awa Ajia Limited’s account number 0000971931 with Access Bank Limited paid on 27 October, 2015, N500,000 paid on 30th December 2015 to Awa Ajia Limited; and N500,000 paid to Awa Ajia 8th January, 2016, N200,000 to Justice Mohammed Yunusa on 30th November, 2015.
Other payments are: N500,000 paid on 15t December, 2015 to Awa Ajia Limited, and another N300,000 paid indirectly to Mr Yunusa, through Awa Ajia Limited.
The anti-graft agency claimed alleged that the monies were meant to subvert the course of justice as they were intended to refrain the judges from acting in the exercise of their official duties and therefore contravenes section 64 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, No. 11. 2011.

Trump’s Crackdown On Visa Overstays Targets Mostly African, Asians
US President Donald Trump.
President of the United States, Donald Trump, has ordered the secretaries of State and Homeland Security to develop plans to crack down on countries whose citizens are most likely to overstay their visas, a long-term problem that is now the biggest driver of illegal immigration into the United States, according to USA Today News.
In 2018, more than 569,000 foreigners overstayed their visas, according to Homeland Security data.
In an effort to slow that trend, Trump ordered Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, and Acting Homeland Security Secretary, Kevin McAleenan, to implement a broad series of punishments for countries whose citizens overstay their tourist and business visas more than 10 per cent of the time.

Those punishments can include limiting the number of people, who can travel to the U.S. from any one country, requiring foreign travelers to post “admission bonds” that would be repaid once they leave the country and requesting more documents from foreigners seeking visas.
Under the guidelines set out by Trump, 21 countries could face sanctions because 35,442 of their citizens overstayed their U.S. visas in 2018, according to Homeland Security data.
The region facing the most potential impact is Africa, home to 13 countries on the list ranging from Angola to Chad to Sudan.
The biggest target by far is Nigeria, which saw 29,004 of its citizens overstay their visas in 2018.
The President could have chosen to punish countries where the largest numbers of total visa overstays came from.

For example, more than 34,000 Brazilians, 15,000 Chinese, 10,000 Indians and 10,000 French overstayed their visas in 2018.
But Trump chose to target countries where the overstay rate — not the total number of people, who overstayed their visas — was high.
That means Brazil, China, India and France will not be affected by Trump’s order since their citizens’ combined overstay rate was 0.9 per cent.
But smaller countries like Bhutan, a mountainous nation squeezed between China and India, could face sanctions since 46 of 398 of its people, who travelled to the U.S. in 2018 overstayed their visas, a rate of 13.1 per cent.
Critics say it’s no coincidence that the Trump administration chose a method that punishes mostly African and Asian countries and spares European countries and other U.S. allies.
“This is Stephen Miller’s way of operationalising his immigration strategy to ‘make America White again’ by covering his tracks with data to disguise the underlying White nationalist objectives of the policy,” said Douglas Rivlin, Director of Communications for America’s Voice, an immigration advocacy group, of the President’s immigration adviser.
In 2018, of the 1,840,482 foreigners, who entered the country on those visas, 2.1 per cent stayed past their expiration date.
In the same year, of the 15,257,468 foreigners, who entered the country on business or tourist visas, 1.9 per cent overstayed.
Here’s the full list of countries whose citizens overstay their U.S. tourist and business visas more than 10 per cent of the time in 2018: Afghanistan, Angola, Bhutan, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Georgia, Laos, Liberia, Mauritania, Federated States of Micronesia, Nigeria, Palau, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

Buhari signed CAMA into law on August 7 and it caused uproar especially among religious leaders.

Zakari Alhaji Sidi, an aide to Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State, has been arrested over alleged fraud.
SaharaReporters gathered that Sidi was arrested at Dutse branch of Access Bank.

He was said to have made an attempt to run away from policemen when he noticed he was being trailed.
A source said the governor’s aide was arrested for fraudulent activities involving the collection of millions of naira from people, false pretence, criminal breach of trust and cheating.
He was also accused of impersonating a former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Nuruddeen Muhammad, who is an indigene of the state.
Sources at the Jigawa State Police Command disclosed that Sidi was being detained in readiness to be flown to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission headquarters in Abuja for further investigation.

Aggrieved Cross River Civil Servants Suspend Protest

Aggrieved civil servants, who were delisted from the Cross River State payroll 13 months ago, have suspended their daily protest for two weeks.
Comrade Francis Agbor, Coordinator of the group, in a statement said the protest was suspended following an agreement reached on Thursday by the state government and the workers.

The public servants were employed following a directive from Governor Ayade in 2016 through the deputy governor, Prof Ivara Esu, who was then acting governor.
“After an exhaustive deliberation that lasted for about six hours,the following resolutions were reached: That the protest be suspended to allow for further negotiations between the aggrieved civil servants and government.
“That the government negotiating team and the leadership of the aggrieved civil servants meet within one week from the date of this meeting to work out a possible date for a verification exercise of the affected staff subject to the approval of His Excellency.
“That aggrieved civil servants who would be successful at the end of the exercise would have their names activated in the state payroll with immediate effect. That all interests and concerns raised in the protest as it concern those whose names were deactivated from the payroll as well as those who had not been payroll after employment for a period of twenty months and above would be properly addressed,” Agbor said.

UK Takes Legal Action To Seize $39m From London Lawyer Who Assisted Ibori Move Stolen Funds From Nigeria
British prosecutors have begun a move to confiscate $39.3m from Bhadresh Gohil, a London lawyer, who assisted James Ibori to loot and launder funds from Nigeria.
Ibori, ex-governor of Delta State, was convicted in 2010 in the United Kingdom for money-laundering.
Gohil was also convicted in 2010 of 13 counts of money-laundering and other offences linked to his role in the case.
He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Reuters reported that Gohil also masterminded a fraud in which $37m in fake consultancy fees was stolen from two Nigerian states in connection with the sale of their stakes in a telecoms company.
Then a partner at a firm in the London district of Mayfair, Gohil had helped Ibori channel stolen funds through shell companies and offshore accounts and buy assets such as an English country house and a $20 private jet — although police caught up with the men before the jet was delivered.
Banks have been fined and scandals revealed by leaks such as the FinCEN and Panama papers, but it remains unusual for direct beneficiaries such as Ibori and Gohil to be held to account.

Lead prosecution counsel, Jonathan Kinnear, on Thursday began setting out the details of what he said was Gohil’s criminal benefit.
Gohil will have a chance later in the hearing to call witnesses and give evidence himself to dispute the prosecution case.
Any confiscation order against him, as for Ibori, will be issued by the judge at a later date.
