Group Berates Interior Minister, Aregbesola, Over Delay In Issuance Of Passport To Nigerians
Daily Post
Rights group, Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice, has berated the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, over the delay in obtaining international passports by Nigerians.
The group also lamented the exploitation being carried out by staff of the Nigerian Immigration Service.
Comrade Adeniyi Sulaiman, Executive Chairman of CHRSJ, stated that Nigerians experience an unnecessary delay in various passport offices across the country due to non-availability of processing materials, especially papers.
Sulaiman, who heaped the blame on Aregbesola, said that, “Since assumption of office by Aregbesola as head of the ministry, people of the country have been facing a series of problems in getting their passport issued at a reasonable time.”
According to CHRSJ Executive Chairman, an investigation conducted by CHRSJ recently to Ikoyi and Alausa, Lagos State,Ibadan and Osogbo e-passport offices have shown that for a period of months, those who applied for the issuance of international passport could not get it and this made it difficult for intending travellers, particularly, overseas students, tourists and others with serious engagement abroad to travel to their various destinations.
The rights activist advised Aregbesola to see the issuance of international e-passports as one of the cardinal statutory duties of an agency under his ministry.

E2%80%98active-engagement%E2%80%99-de-escalating-war-plans Iran Vs US: United Nations Calls For ‘Active Engagement’ In De-escalating War Plans
Portuguese American Journal
In the wake of attacks and reprisal by Iran and United States of America, the United Nations has pledged to involve more engagement to cease war plans by the two countries following the killing of top Iranian general, Qasem Soleimani, in a US drone strike.
The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, said on Wednesday that he would “continue his active engagement” to de-escalate tensions and avert full-scale war.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Guterres re-iterated the “passionate appeal for peace”.
Iran had on Tuesday night carried out a ballistic missile attack against two airbases used by the US and other coalition forces in Iraq, in retaliation for the targeted killing on the outskirts of Baghdad Airport on Friday.
The strikes came just hours after the burial of the influential general.
“Stop escalation, exercise maximum restraint, re-start dialogue, and renew international cooperation.
“It is our common duty to make every effort to avoid a war in the Gulf that the world cannot afford,” he said.

Uganda Police Blocks Off Consultative Meeting Venue Of Presidential Hopeful, Bobi Wine
africannews
Police in Uganda on Wednesday cordoned off venue of a consultative meeting by Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine, stopping it from taking place.
The police, who were acting on order from the presidency, sealed off the venue as they ordered the owner of the venue not to allow Bobi Wine host the event.
The musician-turned politician, who has become a popular figure among young Ugandans, announced last year that he would challenge President Museveni in the 2021 elections.
However, for the leader of the People Power movement to achieve this, he needs to consult the voters.
Accordingly, on December 3, Bobi Wine sent a letter to the electoral commission officially introducing himself and outlining his plans, which he published on social media.
The obstruction of the meeting today makes it the third consultative meeting of Bobi Wine that would be blocked by the Uganda police.

USA VS Iran: Nigeria Tops US President Donald Trump’s Stronghold -Report
A survey by the Washington-based Pew Research Centre has listed Nigeria as one of the strongholds of United States President, Donald Trump. This is as the survey finds that support for Trump remains largely negative around the world, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. The survey by the Washington-based Pew Research Centre found that across the 33 countries surveyed a median of 64 per cent say they do not have confidence in Trump to do the right thing.Only 29 per cent expressed confidence in the U.S. president.“Trump has a base of strong support in the Philippines, Israel, Kenya, Nigeria, and India,” the survey found.Trump received more negative ratings than Russian President, Vladimir Putin, and Chinese President, Xi Jinping.German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, received the highest ratings of the five world leaders polled – 46 per cent expressed confidence in her leadership of world affairs – beating out France’s Emmanuel Macron. The survey, which polled nearly 37,000 people, found anti-Trump sentiment strongest in Western Europe, where Trump has upended relationships with traditional U.S. allies. In Germany, Sweden, France, Spain, and the Netherlands roughly three-in-four lack confidence in Trump.Mexicans also overwhelmingly oppose the president. The survey was notably conducted from May to October 2019, before Trump was impeached by the House in December and before he ordered the killing of a top Iranian general.Trump’s foreign policies, including moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, increasing import tariffs and pulling out of the Paris climate accords are largely opposed.Of all the president’s policies, his direct negotiations with North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, are the most popular garnering a 41 per cent approval rating.
