Secretary of Yoruba Council of Elders, YCE, Dr. Kunle Olajide, in this interview, warns against creating more development commissions to avoid concentrating more powers in the centre. Olajide, who spoke in the wake of the clamour for four new development commissions in the country includng the South West Development Commission Bill sponsored by Senator Ibikunle Amosun, ex-governor of Ogun State, in the Senate, also admonishes that more commissions would breed rivalry that could increase the rate of corruption in Nigeria. The scribe of the regional body demands what he calls return of powers to the federating units.

Obaseki tasks Edo residents on enrollment into Health Insurance Scheme

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has tasked residents in the state to enrol for the State Social Health Insurance Scheme under the Edo State Health Improvement Programme (Edo-HIP), which is designed to ensure that they have access to affordable and quality healthcare services.
Obaseki said this in commemoration of the International Health Coverage Day marked by the United Nations, and its various health-focused organs.

He said, “As we mark the International Health Coverage Day, I urge residents in the state to take advantage of ongoing enrolment exercise for the Social Health Insurance Scheme, to enable them benefit from our healthcare programme planned to provide them with improved healthcare.

The controversy surrounding the burial of a prominent Kalabari son, High Chief Olu Lulu-Briggs, seems to have neared its end as widow of the deceased, Seinye has agreed to the new date announced by his step-son, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs for the interment of the Rivers State elder statesman.
Dumo Lulu-Briggs, second eldest son of the deceased and Chiefs, under the auspices of Oruwari (Briggs) House of Abonnema in Akuku-Toru LGA of Rivers State, had earlier in the week agreed to appear before a Ghana High Court on December 17, 2019, to seek the release of the paramount ruler’s corpse and begin preparations to give him a befitting burial on January 25, 2020..

Institute calls on govts. to allow INEC conduct local govt. elections

The Chartered Institute Of Local Government and Public Administration Of Nigeria has called on both the Federal and state governments to allow  INEC  take over  the conduct of local government elections across the country.
It said that this would help to achieve democracy at the grassroots levels.
The Registrar of the Institute ,Dr Uche Okereke,  said this at the investiture of fellows, and the induction of members and associates by the institute on Saturday in Lagos.

Sun wants Malami’s intervention as EFCC threatens to seal headquarters

 The management of the Sun Publishing Limited on Saturday appealed to the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice to stop the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC)  from sealing the company’s corporate headquarters.
 
The appeal is contained in a statement issued by the management of the media outfit titled: ‘EFCC visit to  The Sun office with armed policemen: Our Stand’ and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN ) on  Saturday.

Duncan Mighty released on bail

Barely 24 hours after his arrest,  Police in Imo have released, musician, Duncan Mighty on bail.
Duncan was arrested on Saturday over N11 million fraud.
Imo police spokesman, Godson Ikeokwu, said in a statement that the Port Harcourt-based singer was released on bail and is scheduled to report back on an unspecified date next week.
He was initially rumoured to have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

The arrest followed a petition written by an up-and-coming rap artiste M2 who claimed that the Imo State Government led by former governor, Rochas Okorocha, through the office of the special adviser on entertainment, entered into a deal with Duncan Mighty to manage, promote and arrange collaboration with other top artistes and sign M2 under Young Wealth record label owned by Duncan Mighty.
