Algeria awaits results of post-Bouteflika presidential elections

Algerians on Friday were awaiting results of a contested presidential election, which was held amid protests in several cities, disruption of voting in some polling stations and a partial boycott of the poll.
Thursday’s election came eight months after April’s resignation of long-time ruler Abdelaziz Bouteflika, following pressure by mass protests.

Since then, protests continued as people called for the departure of key Bouteflika-era officials and for an overhaul of the political system before an election was held.

Steven Gerrard extends Rangers contract until 2024

Steven Gerrard has signed a two-year contract extension that sees him extend his stay at Rangers until 2024.
The former Liverpool and England captain has enjoyed a productive spell in Scotland since arriving at Ibrox in the summer of 2018.
Last season, he led them to their highest points total since returning to the Premiership in 2016 and on Thursday, Rangers reached the last 32 of the Europa League for the first time since the 2010-11 campaign.

Tim Cook says monopolies aren’t bad if they’re ‘not abused’

Apple CEO Tim Cook defended the existence of monopolies in business with a key distinction.
During an interview with Nikkei Asian Review on Wednesday in Tokyo, the tech mogul discussed several topics, including the company’s efforts to constantly innovate and its impact on the broader US economy.
“A monopoly by itself isn’t bad if it’s not abused,” Cook told the outlet while insisting that Apple does not have a monopoly in any sector.

APC kicks against Delta’s Pension Bill for former governors and deputies

Describes it as panacea for economic woe

The All Progressives Congress, APC in Delta State, has kicked against the Pension Rights and Other Benefits Amendments Bill for former governors and deputy governors which was recently passed after scaling third reading at the state House of Assembly.
The bill, which also grants pension rights to former Acting Governor Sam Obi, had earlier been criticised by Deltans, who described it as exploitative and unpopular.

Edo PDP rejects “high fees’’ to purchase forms

The PDP in Edo State rose from its stakeholders’ meeting in Benin on Friday, rejecting “the high fees to purchase forms as released by the national working committee of the party’’.
The meeting, subsequently, mandated the Chairman of the party in the state, Chief Dan Orbih, to inform the party’s national chairman of the position of the Edo State chapter.
Earlier, the meeting heard that party members aspiring for chairmanship positions in the party would pay one million naira, while those gunning for vice-chairmanship positions would pay N500, 000.

Los Angeles police officer charged with fondling corpse, faces 3 years in prison

A Los Angeles police officer who allegedly fondled a dead woman’s breast was charged Thursday with a felony, authorities said.
David Rojas, 27, was charged with having sexual contact with human remains without authority, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. He could face up to three years in state prison if convicted.

FRC team inspects Benin Airport control tower project

A team of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) inspected the control tower of the Benin Airport on Friday, pledging to prevail on the Federal Government to complete the project.
The leader of the team, Alhaji Ola Tijani, said that completion of the project was necessary for the safety of travelers using the airport.

Tijani, who is the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation of the FRC, said that visibility from the control tower was limited, a development, he said, that could compromise safety.

Ex-HGTV host gets 3 years in prison for molesting daughter’s friend

Former HGTV host Christopher Dionne has been sentenced to three years in prison for molesting a 10-year-old girl during a sleepover at his Connecticut home in 2017.
Dionne, 37, — who hosted the “Family Flip” pilot episode for the home-improvement network — maintained his innocence and is expected to appeal his conviction for fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.

Paralyses traffic movement for hours along

A fallen tanker loaded with 33, 000 litres of AGO, popularly called Diesel, in a lone accident in the early hours of Friday, resulted in terrible gridlock along Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Victoria Island, Lagos, with motorists stranded for hours in the attendant traffic.
Though there was no death recorded, the driver was said to have survived with injuries suspected to be internal and is currently hospitalized.

Author of book on Buhari gets over 1million pre-order 2 weeks before launch 

The author of the soon to be launched book on President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr. Philip Agbese has received an order for over 1 million copies of the book just two weeks to the date for the official launch.
The book entitled, “Integrity Vs Power Play: Understanding the Buhari Phenomenon” is set for launch at the International Conference Centre , on the 30th of December, 2019.
Agbese, who is the Chief Executive Officer of TheNigerian, a news portal established in the United Kingdom, had in a widely circulated press statement announced the date and venue for the launch of the book and few hours after the news went public, inquiries about the book dominated the social media space with many asking for copies.
