Nigeria, South Africa To Adopt Early Warning Mechanism Over Xenophobic Attacks, Says Dabiri-Erewa

The Nigerian Government says it will implement the early warning signal mechanism recently signed with South Africa.
Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, gave the assurance following reports of renewed xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in that country on Tuesday.
According to her the ministers of foreign affairs in both countries would ensure the implementation of the mechanisms as part of the efforts to curb xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
In a statement, Dabiri-Erewa said the Consul-General of Nigeria in South Africa, Godwin Adama, was on top of the situation.
She said, “The Consul General, Godwin Adama, is currently in Witbank, Mpumulanga, where the crisis happened.
“He is at a meeting with the highest police authorities there.
“The mission intervened immediately and the situation is currently under control.
“After this meeting, a meeting with Nigerians along with the South African Police will hold.”
In September, at least 600 Nigerians were forced to return home after xenophobic violence targeted their lives and businesses.
Though President Muhammadu Buhari and South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa said both countries would work together to prevent a repeat of such, Tuesday’s episode of the traditional violence against African migrants especially Nigerians has rubbished all those assurances.

We Are Sons And Daughters Of Oduduwa, Not Yorubas By Femi Fani-Kayode

There are two demeaning and insulting names that the Fulani gave to Southerners: “Nyamiri” (meaning ‘fetcher of water’) in reference to the people of the South-East and “Yariba” in reference to the people of the South-West.
The South-East rejected that name but the South-West accepted it. The name “Yoruba” derives from “Yariba” and it means “shady and unreliable”. I reject that strange name and label and I hope and pray that the good people of South Western Nigeria will see the wisdom in doing so, too.
I am not a “Yariba” or “Yoruba” but an “Omo Karo Jire” or an “Ooduwan” and my language is not “Yoruba” but “Anago”. We are what we call ourselves. We are not “shady and unreliable” (Yariba) and we must not accept names that are given to us by our historical adversaries.
Any Omo Karo Jire or Ooduwan that continues to call himself a “Yoruba” is lost and does not know the implication of what he is doing to his own people. He is simply affirming and confirming an insulting label which has deep sinister, mystical and spiritual connotations.
The word “Yoruba” did not even exist until the 18th century and even then most of the tribes of the South-West, including the Oyo’s, rejected it due to its origin and meaning. The word “Yoruba” is alien to our culture and not known in the Anago language. Ooduwans please take note.
The first time the word “Yoruba” was used as a generic term for all people of the South-West was in the 19th century by Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther. He did us a great disservice there given the fact that it derives from the word “Yariba” which the Fulani used to describe our people.
The meaning of the word “Yariba” is “usurper, deceitful, shady, treacherous, cheating usurer and double-dealing bastard”. Once again, I reject that name.
The good people of South-West are “Anagos” or “Omo Karo Jire’s” or “Omo Oluabi’s” or “Ooduwans” and we are not “Yaribas” or “Yorubas”.
I, FFK, a proud Ife, an Anago, an Omo Karo Jire, an Omoluabi, an Ooduwan and son of Oduduwa, will never answer to the name “Yoruba” again or use it to describe my people. We are better than that.
The British named our nation “Nigeria” meaning “area of darkness” and the Fulani named our ethnic nationality “Yariba”.
Together this means “a group of deceitful, shady, treacherous usurpers and bastards from an area of darkness”.
Is it any wonder that we are still in servitude and bondage? What a terrible combination. We have been snared by our names.
May God open our eyes, may He help and deliver us! We must start helping ourselves by rejecting these deeply demonic names, labels and terms.
We are better than the baggage that those horrific names carry.
If the Lord can change the name of Jacob (meaning ‘shady character, rogue and trickster’) to Israel (meaning ‘God contends’), then He can change ours too.
If Jabez (meaning ‘one who was born in sorrow’) can call on the Lord to break the chains and remove the limitations of his name, to enlarge his coast and to bless him abundantly, so can we.
Remember, we are what we call ourselves.

E2%80%93efcc-witness Stolen Credit Card Details Retrieved From Naira Marley’s Computer –EFCC Witness

The first prosecution witness in the alleged fraud case involving music artiste Azeez Fashola widely known as Naira Marley, has informed the court that various stolen credit card information were retrieved from the musician’s laptop computer.
Giving witness before Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Lagos division of the Federal High Court on Wednesday, Nuru Buhari informed the court that apart from the stolen credit card information, website history recovered from the device showed that the top five most visited sites dealt with buying and selling stolen credit card information.
He said, “Analysis of the websites revealed that web 1 is where stolen card information is being sold to intending fraudsters, web 2 is for stolen credit cards specifically for the United Kingdom, web 3 is an online website designed for UK card holders to check their balance wherever they are around the world, web 4 is a dark web meaning an underground tunnel in the Internet where stolen credit card information are sold and traded, web 5 is an online shopping mall where members are given discounts for shopping from certain shops.”
He also informed the court while being led by EFCC counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, that stolen credit card information with special status allows transaction up to $12,000 without a pin or physical card.
Buhari also informed the court that suspicious apps that are mostly used by people with shady deals on the Internet were found on the laptop.
He added, “We analysed installed apps on the laptop and found two apps that enables the owner of the computer to decide the server of a bank as to his identity and location, IP VANISH and TOR browser.
“The TOR browser is sometimes called the onion. Most of the criminals cover their tracks with various layers just like an onion using this app to make it near impossible for a tracker to track their location.
“The IP VANISH is a virtual private network which provides that the actual computer and location of usage cannot be identified. It also gives the user the ability to change their location.”
He also said an analysis of the administrator account on the laptop revealed that the admin is one Naira Marley and the account was connected to his iCloud account.
During the course of the examination, Oyedepo tendered the request for the analysis of apple laptop and an iPhone allegedly confiscated from the defendant.
In requesting for an adjournment for the purpose of cross examining the witness, Olalekan Ojo, counsel to the defendant, informed the court that most of the statements made by the witness are not in the documents provided by the prosecution and the defence is just hearing them for the first time and would need to closely review the statements before cross examining the witness.
Oweibo adjourned until Thursday for cross-examination of the witness.
Naira Marley is being prosecuted by the EFCC on an 11-count charge of conspiracy, possession of counterfeit cards and fraud.
His co-defendant is one Yad Isril, said to still be at large.

Court Admits Evans’ Confessional Statement

An Igbosere High Court, Lagos, on Wednesday admitted the alleged confessional statement of suspected kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, aka Evans, as exhibit.
Delivering a ruling, Justice Adedayo Akintoye held that the test of voluntariness of a statement cannot be determined by a procedural law relied upon by the defendant, but by the provisions of the evidence act which is the instant law that regulates the admissibility of a statement.
She said the defendant admitted during trial-within-trial that while he was making his confessional statement, there were no chains on his legs and no knife was held over his head.
Akintoye said, “Once the basic requirements in obtaining statements from an accused person has been followed and no injustice can be said to have been caused to the defendant, the rules of evidence requires that the statement will be relevant and admissible in law.

“I consider the allegations of duress made by the defendant as an afterthought; however, none of the allegations made by the defendant was proved by him.
“Having considered the evidence before the court and having the opportunity to hear the witnesses, I have no reason to doubt the evidence of the prosecution witnesses.
“I, therefore, hold that the prosecution has established the voluntariness of the statement sought to be tendered.
“Therefore, the argument of the learned counsel for the first defendant in these issues are hereby discountenanced.”
Evans is currently facing two separate charges, bordering on conspiracy to kidnap, kidnapping and attempted murder, before Justice Adedayo Akintoye, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
