target=_blank>NCDC Confirms Death of Seven Tourists In Bauchi
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Friday said that seven tourists, who visited Yankari Games Reserve in the last one month in Bauchi State, died from an ailment believed to be Yellow Fever.
The NCDC said four confirmed cases have been recorded so far.
Three of them are residents of Alkeleri, the local council where the facility is situated, while a fourth is a person, who made visits to an unnamed location in Kano State and the games reserve in Bauchi.
The other six are said to have been among a party of 95 students from the Waka College of Education in Biu LGA of Borno State.
The disease surveillance agency said two other students had showed signs but were still alive as at the time the announcement was made on Twitter.
“NCDC was first notified on August 29 when we received the report of a confirmed case of Yellow Fever in Kano State from a laboratory.
“Subsequent investigations led by the Kano State Epidemiology Team established that this confirmed case of Yellow Fever was from a patient who visited the Yankari Games Reserve in Bauchi in August with his father.
“Unfortunately, the father died with similar symptoms before a sample could be collected and tested.
“Subsequently, on September 3, the Borno State Epidemiology Team reported deaths among students of Waka College of Education in Biu LGA.
“These students visited the Yankari Games Reserve in August.
“Of the 95 students that visited the resort, eight of them developed symptoms and six had died as at the time of the report,” the agency said.

target=_blank>NCAC DG, Runsewe, Commended For Speaking Against Nudity, Bobrisky
Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, Otunba Segun Runsewe, has been commended for rising up against nudity and immoral acts in the society.
In an open letter on Friday, a social commentator, John Akosa, hailed Runsewe for protecting the culture of the country by frowning against acts that bring shame to Nigeria and her people and also condemning the activities of popular cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye widely known as Bobrisky.
Recall that Bobrisky had received a warning from Runsewe to desist from engaging in acts that rubbishes Nigeria’s rich culture.
After that warning, Bobrisky fired back by boasting that nobody could touch him because he had connections in ‘high places’.
But in a move that signalled NCAC’s intent to protect Nigeria’s culture, the police in Lagos on August 31 sealed two venues scheduled to host the 28th birthday celebration of Bobrisky while the cross-dresser went into hiding thereafter.
Applauding Runsewe for the feat and protecting the future of Nigerian youth, Akosa said, “I hail your dedication and wisdom to draw the attention of Nigerians to the open deviant attitude of Idris Okuneye known as Bobrisky.
“Even though I do not speak for Nigerians, majority are happy and glad that you took the frontal battle to this community of confusionists and upholders of negative and insidious appearances.
“Continue to serve Nigeria to the best of your ability, encourage our return to the best usage of our culture and also focus on the youth who are future defenders of our culture.
“Do well to develop cultural programmes that can help restore our pride in our heritage and history.”

target=_blank>CACOL Calls For Introduction Of Anti-corruption Lessons In Primary, Secondary Schools
The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership has called on the Nigerian Government to introduce the study of corruption and anti-corruption to pupils in primary and secondary schools in order to reduce corruption in the country.
The group made the call in a statement on Friday by its Executive Chairman, Debo Adeniran.
It said, “Since CACOL started this initiative of approaching the grassroots to take full ownership of this fight against corruption, we have received positive signals and hereby implore the government to evolve a more broadened approach that would design and incorporate the study of corruption as a curriculum/subject in all public and private primary and secondary schools in the country.
“Such would be climaxed by anti-corruption cadres in our various schools that would serve as veritable whistle-blowers against corruption wherever and whenever the cankerworm rears its ugly head.
“We as anti-corruption crusaders are willing and ready to partner governments at all levels to make this fight a success in order to rid our nation of its destructive agents and finally rollback corruption.”

target=_blank>Xenophobia: Air Peace Delays Airlifting Due To Expired Travel Documents Of Nigerians In South Africa
Air Peace has postponed the free airlifting of Nigerians in South Africa due to expired travel documents of most citizens in that country.
Many Nigerians, who had been scheduled for evacuation back home in the face of attacks on them in South Africa, were said to be unable to tender valid travel documents when asked to do so.
As a result of the situation, the planned airlift originally scheduled for Friday, September 6, had been moved to Monday, September 9 or Tuesday, the following day.
Air Peace confirmed the development after discussions with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nigerian High Commission in South Africa.
“Air Peace has prepared its aircraft, Boeing 777, for the flight since Tuesday but the Nigerian High Commission needed time to register Nigerians billed to travel.

Xenophobia: Nigeria Tired Of Repatriating Dead Citizens From South Africa –Gbajabiamila
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has said that Nigeria was fed up with repatriating the bodies of citizens killed in South Africa.
He made the statement in Abuja on Friday while condemning the latest xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa, adding that they would seek restoration and recompense for Nigerian victims.
Gbajabiamila said, “Let no one be left in any doubt, we will seek, and we will obtain by whatever means available, due restoration and recompense for all that has been lost in this latest conflagration and all the ones that have come before.
“We are committed to a sustained and special effort to see that justice is achieved for all our people who have suffered.
“We have heard the cries of our citizens, and we have witnessed their devastation; we will mourn for the dead and cry for the lost, but we will not stop there.
“Yet, today and too many a time, we are called to stand as pallbearers, bringing home to bury the bodies of our brothers and sisters, fathers and mothers, our children, savaged and decimated.
“What is their offence? That they dared to dream of glory and profit beyond our borders, and having dreamt, they endeavoured to make real the visions of their heart.
“We did not provoke nor do we deserve the violence that has been visited upon our people in South Africa.
“We reject entirely the obvious attempt to change the true narrative of events by casting the recently organised acts of violence as merely internecine conflict between gangs fighting for turf.
“Unless it is the position of South African Government that all Nigerians living in South Africa are gangsters and criminals, we demand that they reject these claims without equivocation.
“We will honour the lives of our fallen brothers by making sure that never again will our citizens’ inalienable right to life and liberty be so wantonly denied here at home or anywhere else in the world.”
