target=_blank>Shittu, Owoseni, Others Call For Collective Advocacy In Fight Against Corruption
SaharaReporters Media
Wahab Shittu, a lawyer and counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and former Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Fatai Owoseni, have called for a collective advocacy in the fight against corruption in Nigeria.
They made the call at a summit organised by Scroll Report in Lagos.
According to Shittu, “Insecurity threatens our collective freedom, security and national development.
“Fighting insecurity and corruption is a collective effort and not the responsibility of government alone. It should be collectively tackled.”
Also speaking at the event, Owoseni said, “Everyone should be involved in the fight against corruption and Insecurity.
“The media and civil societies must serve selflessly to fight against corruption and insecurity.”
Adding her voice to the talk, Toun Okewale, Managing Director of Women Radio, identified corruption and insecurity as Nigeria’s biggest challenge.

target=_blank>Proscription: IMN Vows To Continue Activities
Members of Islamic Movement in Nigeria have vowed to continue with the protest to demand for the release of their leader, Sheik Ibraheem El-Zakzaky despite the clampdown order by the police.
The movement said the order by the Inspector-General of Police to arrest all leaders of the movement and dismantle their structures across the states was dead on arrival and cannot stand.
The group disclosed this on Sunday in Abuja in a statement signed by spokesperson for the movement, Ibrahim Musa.
IMN noted that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration had cultivated the habit of denying them space to conduct their religious activities at the commencement of the first month of the Islamic calendar (Muharram) when all Shi’ites are expected to converge.
Musa noted that the latest order by the police had confirmed that the government was bent on scuttling this year’s Muharram religious mourning obligations.
The statement reads, “It is on record that the Buhari administration since its inception in 2015, has always used the commencement of the first month of the Islamic calendar, Muharram, to persecute, kill and maim us and deny us any space to conduct our religious rites expected of all Shi’ites.
“This recent order given on the eve of Muharram underlines the evil intention of the government to continue this pattern of attack against Shia Islam and prevent us from conducting our religious obligation.”
The sect pointed out that Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, has engaged the services of vigilante groups to descend on the IMN during Ashura mourning session in Kaduna.

E2%80%98magu-boys%E2%80%99-work-efcc-or-emperor-fredrick-nwabufo target=_blank>Who Do ‘Magu Boys’ Work For, EFCC Or An Emperor? By Fredrick Nwabufo
Fredrick Nwabufo
Fredrick Nwabufo
A scathing detraction to professionalism in Nigeria is the customisation of public offices. Institutions are built around personalities rather than on principles and service.
The corrugation of Nigeria’s public offices and institutions has a long history. But of significance is the brazen privatisation and deployment of public office to insular ends by Michael Aondooakaa, Attorney-General of the Federation under Umaru Musa Yar’adua in 2009.
Aondooakaa was AGF and in the same breath, counsel to George Akume, then Benue State governor, who was being investigated by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission for alleged corruption to the tune of N2bn.
Being Nigeria’s chief law officer, Aondooakaa, who naturally should have rescued himself from the case, went to work undermining and frustrating the EFCC. In fact, prior to his appointment, he had filed a suit at the Supreme Court seeking the dissolution of the anti-graft agency. And he refused to withdraw this case or his representation in the matter even after his appointment until the apex court dismissed it.
That was the standard-bearer of Nigeria’s law begriming the constitution. Earlier, in 2007, he attempted to retard the arrest of James Ibori in the United Kingdom – an action which led to a diplomatic scuffle with the country. Nuhu Ribadu’s unbending stance in this case led to his mortifying discharge weeks after.
There are analogous cases in the Buhari administration – one of which is the ‘cleansing and empowerment’ of Abulrasheed Maina, former pension chief, who was declared wanted by the EFCC for corruption by Abubakar Malami, Attorney-General of the Federation.
I believe the office of AGF has been one of the most abused in the country.
In the same vein, the tagging of top staff of the EFCC as ‘Magu boys’ by the agency, accents the execrable customisation of public office in the country. It is the reason the institutions function with human frailties; that is, if the head of an institution is incompetent or corrupt, the entire body necrotises.
This is the lamentable piece of hagiography the agency footnoted in a photo on social media.
“#Photo Magu Boys, led by EFCC’s Lagos Head of Operations, Mohammed Rabo, on the move as they continue to tame the corruption monster from the Lagos axis of the battlefield. With the acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, giving orders and directing affairs, the war is winnable.”
The reluctance of public officers to distinguish themselves from their offices is the reason abuse of office is rife here. There is Ibrahim Magu and there is the EFCC. Two separate entities. Personal foibles and interest must be detached from public office.
If Magu leaves as EFCC chairman, will those agents still be ‘Magu boys’? Will they be working for him or the agency? Whose interest are they serving, Magu or Nigerians? And do they work for Magu or for Nigerians?
It is a downing reality how individuals expropriate public offices, design them in their own image and build a temple in them for everyone to worship.
A few days ago, after the inauguration of ministers, a herd of staff members of the Ministry of Finance abandoned duty and stayed out in the rain to welcome Zainab Ahmed. They formed a doughnut around the minister and chanted, ‘’mama oyoyo’’ as she sauntered into the premises with an insufferable gait. She soaked in all the praise and sycophancy.
But did the minister not realise that it was wrong of them, the jamboree being during work hours? And is there no regard for professionalism?
Also, the privatisation of institutions like the police and the Department of State Services, which are sometimes deployed in witch-hunt, is the reason their performance is underwhelming. Until public institutions truly become public; they cannot serve Nigerians.

target=_blank>Kidnappings: Ban Miyetti Allah, CAN Tells Buhari
The Christian Association of Nigeria has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to ban the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, an umbrella association of herdsmen in the country, to address the problem of kidnappings in the country.
The association also called on the President to “completely scrap” the suspended RUGA settlement scheme, according to a report by TheCable.
CAN made the request at a summit held in Lagos on Saturday.
CAN President, Samson Ayokunle, said the association came up with the recommendations after setting up a committee to look into the RUGA scheme and related issues.
He accused MACBAN of supporting some herdsmen fingered in various attacks across the country.
He said, “Anything that smacks of mutual suspicion should be avoided in the interest of national unity.
“The Federal Government should immediately disarm and prosecute the Fulani herdsmen terrorists that have been recorded as one of the deadliest terrorists groups in the world.
“MACBAN which openly supports the activities of the murderous Fulani herdsmen should be immediately.
“President Buhari should suspend his membership and patronage of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association until he leaves office to reduce tension.”

target=_blank>Buhari Appointed Amina Zakari’s Brother As Minister, Son As Special Adviser For Helping To Rig Election –Kperogi
Farooq Kperogi, an activist, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of nepotism in the appointment of key figures in his administration.
Kperogi in a tweet on Sunday said that Buhari appointed Ahmed Zakari, son of controversial head of election collation, Amina Zakari as special adviser on infrastructure as well as Suleiman Adamu, as Minister of Water Resources.
In the build up to the 2019 general elections, Zakari’s biological relationship with the President came under public scrutiny after sources revealed they were related.
Zakari went on to head the collation of the 2019 general elections.
Kperogi alleged that the appointments were made by Buhari to thank Zakari for her role in manipulating the elections.
He said, “Buhari’s new Special Assistant on infrastructure is INEC’s Amina Zakari’s son.
“When people objected to the appointment of Zakari as head of INEC’s committee that would be in charge of the secretariat for collation of results of the last presidential election, both the presidency and Zakari lied that Buhari and Zakari had no family relationship until I exposed this in January 5, 2019.
“Well, many people don’t seem to notice that Buhari has compensated Zakari for helping him to rig the 2019 election.
“As I pointed out in January 5, 2019, at some point in his youth, Buhari, who lost his father at a young age, came under the guardianship of Zakari’s father, the late Alhaji Hussaini Adamu.
“Buhari continues to nurture his relationship with the Hussaini Adamu family.
“The appointment of Zakari’s son to an utterly purposeless position isn’t just a reward for her help in perpetrating unexampled electoral fraud on Buhari’s behalf, it’s also a continuation of Buhari’s bald-faced nepotism.”

E2%80%99s-immigration-policy%E2%80%99ll-affect-nigerian-professionals-%E2%80%93ndm target=_blank>Trump’s Immigration Policy’ll Affect Nigerian Professionals –NDM
The Nigerian Diaspora Movement in the United States has said that President Donald Trump’s new immigration policy will over time reduce the number of Nigerians in strategic professional positions in the North American country.
Chairman of the movement, Prof Apollos Nwauwa, made the disclosure on Sunday.
A policy alert released on Wednesday by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, revealed Trump administration’s plan to make it more difficult for the children of some American service members and government employees living abroad to automatically become US citizens.
The rule appears to primarily affect the children of naturalised American citizens serving in the armed forces, who have not lived in the US for a required period of time.
It does not impact anyone born in the US.
According to Nwauwa, Nigerians in the US are of significant value to the country given that they constitute a large part of the human resource base of America.
He said, “There is hardly any American agency or parastatal that has no Nigerian working in its upper echelons.
“Since only citizens are permitted to work in sensitive and lucrative positions, over time, this policy will reduce the number of Nigerians in strategic professional positions in the US.
“Unquestionably, the long-term goal of the Trump administration is to reduce to the barest minimum the number of immigrants in his country.
“The policy will only briefly affect Nigerians visiting the US to have babies.
“It will also have implications for American servicemen, business people, members of the diplomatic corps as well as others, who live outside the US with their families.
“Nigerians who also have US citizenship will be affected the most because their children born in their country of birth after they had become American citizens by naturalisation will not be granted citizenship.
“Trump’s administration is determined to change the US immigration landscape once and for all.”
