target=_blank>Ruga Settlement: No Outsider Will Take Ekiti Land, Fayemi Vows
Kayode Fayemi, governor of Ekiti state has said he will remain resolute in ensuring that no one takes land belonging to Ekiti indigenes.
He spoke at a condolence visit to Orin-Ekiti where indigenes Ilori, a 65-year-old hunter, was shot dead during the weekend.
He said, “Nobody is coming to take our land in Ekiti; the governor of Ekiti state has power over the land of Ekiti and it is the person that the governor gives land in Ekiti that can use the land of Ekiti.
“If there are negative comments being peddled around that some people are coming to take over Ekiti land, it’s mere hearsay. It cannot happen in Ekiti except I am no longer the governor of Ekiti state and there is nobody that can be governor in Ekiti that will cede Ekiti land to outsiders because our land is not even enough for us.
“Adequate security of our people is what concerns me most in Ekiti and Nigeria and I want our people to ignore the lies and falsehood some individuals are spreading around. There is nobody that will be governor in Ekiti that will allow outsiders to take over our communities from the people here or say that people coming from elsewhere should come and take over Ekiti land.
“Those saying this are only playing politics with the matter. This is not politics, security is an issue that concerns all of us.
“Some individuals have been spreading baseless rumours to cause disaffection because they are no longer in power and it is their wish that Ekiti should be consumed by anarchy.
“I want to assure you that our government has not stopped work on security. No single individual or group can provide security; the local hunters know their terrains very well than our security agents and it will serve the people well if they work together.”

target=_blank>Nigerian Banks Face Threats From Telcos With Implementation of Payment Service Banking -Moody’s
Telecom operators (telcos) and financial technology companies (fintechs) are expected to reduce the customer base of money deposit banks in the retail space with the anticipated implementation of Payment Service Banking.
Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), had said during the presentation of his five-year plan that the apex lender would leverage more unstructured supplementary services database (USSD), as well as mobile and agency banking, to drive financial inclusion in the country.
Following the announcement of this intent, financial analysis firm Moodys, believes the entrance of new players— telecom operators and fintechs, will reduce efforts by commercial banks to expand their financial inclusion drive through their mobile banking platforms.
Moodys notes that the CBN had in October 2018, issued guidelines on PSB licenses which enables non-banking institutions to operate accounts independently of established banks.
“PSBs will challenge incumbent banks because of their ability to develop their own digital platforms, hold deposits and make transfers without partnering with banks. These new entrants will compete with banks, especially on retail banking products, which will negatively pressure banks’ consumer business unit margins,” the Moodys analysis says.
Once the initiative comes into force, subscribers to MTN, Globacom and 9mobile, will be able to deposit and transfer money using their network operators.
Moodys notes that most of the banks in the country, will not be able to withstand this competition, with the exception of Access bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB), First Bank of Nigeria )FBN) and Zenith bank.
“Large telecom companies will be able to leverage their large customer bases, threatening banks’ strategies to mobilise retail deposits via mobile-phone-based platforms, although banks will be able to keep deposits where wallets are held in their trust accounts. Fintechs may also create alternative distribution and payment channels that risk eroding banks’ payment services’ fee income,” the analysis notes.
“We expect Nigeria’s large banks – Access Bank Plc (B2 stable, b32), Zenith Bank Plc (B2 stable, b2), First Bank of Nigeria (B2 stable, b3), United Bank for Africa Plc (B2 stable, b2) and Guaranty Trust Bank Plc (B2 stable, b2) – to be better positioned to defend their market shares because they have larger customer bases and large technology budgets.”
As for the capacity of the fintechs to take advantage of the opportunity, Moodys notes that these companies are much smaller than the banks and do not have a know-your-customer (KYC) database.
They would, therefore, have to go into partnership with banks to enjoy the benefits of the increased market space. The firm also observes that certain commercial financial institutions have already positioned themselves for this competition by buying robotic and tech services from the fintechs.
Based on figures from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), MTN had 43.89 million internet subscribers in December 2018; Airtel had 29.75 million, Globacom had 28.05 million; and 9mobile had 9.91 million.
However, total subscribers for MTN in May was 54 million; Globacom had 43.3 million in November, 2018; and Airtel had 43.1 million.
It is those customers who do not use the Internet that the commercial banks, telcos and fintechs will be locked in a cut-throat competition for in the coming years.

target=_blank>Ruga Settlements Are Like Buhari Giving Violent Herdsmen Money, Shopping For Lands On Their Behalf, Allege South-west, South-east, Middle Belt Groups
Leaders in Nigeria’s Southern, Eastern and Middle Belt region have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to present to the public the official gazette establishing Ruga settlements for herdsmen in selected states of the country.
The group made its position known in a statement signed by Yinka Odumakin (South West), Chigozie Ogbu (South East), Senator Bassey Henshaw (South South), Dr. Isuwa Dogo (Middle Belt).
The statement read, “The attention of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders has been drawn to a statement by the Presidency through Mallam Garuba Shehu on the contentious issue of Ruga settlements for Fulani herdsmen across the country.
“While most of the statement was full of sound fury signifying nothing, we are particularly interested in two claims in the statement. It is true that government at the centre has gazetted lands in all states of the federation but because the idea is not to force this programme on anyone, the government has limited the take-off to the dozen states with valid requests.
“We are interested in having the gazette number and its content as we know per the constitution and laws of the country that all lands in each state of the federation is vested in the governor. In what capacity and with which authority did the federal government gazette lands in all states of Nigeria?
“This Freudian slip from the Presidency signposts a dangerous sign of deployment of federal might to overawe the federating units in a desperate bid to promote the interest of one ethnic group over those of over 350 other ethnic nationalities across Nigeria.
“We must say that we find laughable the admonition to state governors by the Presidency though we are dealing with an unfolding tragedy.
“We urge states to join the federal government at the centre (sic) in encouraging all sides to these conflicts to make efforts towards finding a peaceful resolution. As we seek a permanent solution to these unwanted conflicts, efforts must be made to ensure that no innocent person faces any kind of deprivation or loss of right and freedom under our laws.
“The presidency claims to have found peaceful resolution to the Fulani herdsmen terror on farmers (cheekily dubbed farmers-herders conflict) but is only allegedly offering money to the herdsmen and now looking for territories for them all over the country.
“What have they offered the farmers? Nothing! A government that wants to force violent herders on harmless communities now talk of not suffering any kind of ‘deprivation’ and ‘loss of right and freedom’. What better recipe for non-Fulani communities to suffer these than the Ruga recipe?
“Lastly, we hope the Buhari Presidency knows the message it is sending to other groups in Nigeria with its pampering of marauding herdsmen: only the violent get it by force.”

E2%80%99s-brain-propagandist-interpreter-buhari%E2%80%99s-maladies-bayo target=_blank>Osinbajo: Serial Liar, Buhari’s Brain, Propagandist, Interpreter Of Buhari’s Maladies By Bayo Oluwasanmi
Recently, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo was in the US on a 4-day visit. At a town hall meeting in New York with the Nigerian community, while responding to questions and comments, he said:
“With respect to general kidnapping which we have seen in parts of the country, again, this is not entirely new. In fact, some of the kidnapping stories you read or listen to are simply not true anywhere, some are fueled by politics.”
Lying in politics cuts across political parties and political beliefs. Lying is basic qualification for profession of politicking. We know politicians are wretched liars. But vice-president Osinbajo is in a different category. He is a pastor of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). As of August 2018, RCCG has branches in 198 countries of the world with five million members. For Osinbajo to have denied daily kidnappings in Nigeria by Fulani herdsmen terrorists is political heresy.
Nigerians find it impossible to reconcile the sheer frequency, spontaneity, and seeming irrelevance of Osinbajo’s lies. Osinbajo isn’t lying to protect his reputation. Rather, he’s taking bullets for his boss – liar-in-chief, President Muhammadu Buhari Baba Slow Motion. Osinbajo lies on behalf of a government whose integrity and credibility had dissolved four years ago like ice in a 90 degree summer weather. No doubt, Osinbajo lies in order to be a loyal servant to a Fulani.
Each time Buhari is in a deep shit, Osinbajo comes to his rescue with flagrant truth-stretching to outright flat-out falsehood. Osinbajo as Baba Slow motion’s brain, propagandist, and interpreter of Buhari’s maladies, will not only parrot his version of the truth, but convincingly argue as if in the court of law, to knock down a troubling national issue that we all know is true and verifiable.
As expected, the New York lie propagated by Osinbajo had erased all respect and credibility he once enjoyed. He has become a vice-president who is manifestly unreliable and untrustworthy. This is how Frank Gaffney, a former US Assistant Secretary of Defense described Osinbajo: “He lies shamelessly – including this weekend in New York – about the anti-Christian persecution his government is at least tolerating, and, at worst, enabling. Osinbajo’s own tribe has sharply repudiated him for doing so.”
Mr. Vice-President, why do you lie constantly and twist versions of reality? Do you need to cover up an emperor who is already naked? Do you have to stain your reputation for a wicked, insensitive, aloof, distant, spectator president known for his undisguised nepotism?
Nigerians are sick of reign of untruths. Remember the Jonathan years, Doyin Okupe, the big, fat, idiot and Reuben Abati, seller of toxic delicacies served as purveyors of falsehood for the Jonathan presidency.
Mr. Vice-President, consider this: Lies are exhausting to fight. Lies are pernicious in their effects. Lies are impossible to correct, alter, or deny when they are strongly at variance with he naked truth of what Nigerians experience on a daily basis.
Within the short span of Buhari’s administration, Nigerians have been overwhelmed with false, or potentially false statements. We have become so tired and overworked trying to sift through the thicket of lies. Buhari’s administration lied about restructure, lied about number of jobs created, lied about its achievements, lied about how much Abacha’s loot was recovered how it was spent.
Buhari’s administration lied about how much money was returned by the looters and what the government did with the money, lied that Boko Haram had been decimated, lied that herdsmen terrorists only carry sticks not AK-47, lied about the number of people killed by both Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen savages, lied about how many Nigerians were killed, kidnapped, and displaced by herdsmen, lied about the economy. I can go on, and on, and on.
Nigerians are no in denial that Buhari is allergic to vision, reality, and truth. Buhari, Osinbajo and coterie of liars of the administration b believe they could lie their way through their lies. They lied about everything. They lied about big and little things. They lied to give themselves an advantage. They lied when a lie did them no good whatsoever. They lied because they knew they could lie again. Their only secure bridge between one lie and the next is yet another lie.
With Buhari the flagrant liar-in-chief as president, and Osinbajo the serial liar, propagandist, and interpreter of Buhari’s maladies as vice-president, Nigeria is doomed!

E2%80%8B target=_blank>The New National Assembly In The Next Level Era By Peter Claver Oparah?
With the election of the leadership of the National Assembly, which sees APC taking full control of both chambers, there are these tall expectations that governance in the next four years will proceed at a faster pace than in the last four years where the National Assembly leadership operated as the de facto opposition to the Buhari government. This expectation is driven by the fact that the executive arm of government will do better and faster in governance delivery when the legislature is on the same page with it than when the legislature constitutes a stumbling block to the policies and activities of the executive.
The last four years saw a situation where the legislature worked at cross purposes with the executive and constituted sustained roadblocks to the executive and its desires to mend a wrecked and shattered nation and chart a new route to ways of doing things in a storm-battered country. The erstwhile leaders of the National Assembly, while superficially belonging to the APC, were, body and soul, PDP and did everything to frustrate the policies of the APC executive. Through budgetary mutilations and sustained distraction to the executive, the Saraki and Dogara National Assembly did everything humanly possible to frustrate the executive and ensure it failed in its desire to rebuild a nation battered to the bones by internecine corruption, impunity and cluelessness. The Buhari government was able to achieve tremendously in its first four years by the sheer will of the government and its supporters to break from a sordid past, fix decrepit infrastructures, cap the wellheads of rampaging corruption, arrest the fratricidal security crises, create new frontiers of economic growth, hew an ambitious social intervention programme that addresses the plights of the most vulnerable, the poorest and the most neglected segments of the Nigerian society.
With the election of Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila as the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives however, there is no doubt that the APC government is placed on the right footing to achieve its programmes, dreams and aspirations for the nation. Nigerians are therefore expecting a marked improvement in its delivery in the next four years. If the government was able to strike such remarkable achievements as it did in the last four years, with a hostile legislature, there is little doubt that it will achieve much more in the next four years with a legislature that operates on the same page with it and reflects the party’s control of the National Assembly. There is an expectation that the era of mischievously shredding national budgets to smithereens so as to ensure the government fails in its plans for the people, is over and so also is the era of deliberate delay of budgets to ensure that the government doesn’t achieve much. The expectations of Nigerians are bolstered by the fact that they expect the era of diverting budgetary provisions for critical and regenerative capital projects to fund corrupt, immaterial constituency projects to be over with the new National Assembly.
With the above scenario, Nigerians, therefore, expect the Buhari government to complete the many important and critical capital projects it started in its first term. Nigerians expect that the many infrastructural rehabilitation projects the Buhari government started in its first four years would be given added fillip and most of them completed in the next four years to place the country soundly on the paths of growth. With a new National Assembly that doesn’t see its commission in frustrating the executive and its policies, Nigerians are looking forward to a fast-paced Next Level era where the expansive developmental polices of the Buhari government aimed at recreating a nation ran aground by intense corruption, would be achieved at a faster speed. Nigerians expect the new National Assembly to complement the government’s policies to tame the scourge of unemployment by expanding the productive capacity of the economy, intensify the development of the agricultural sector, diversify the fonts of revenue generation, expand the frontiers of the social investment programme and rein in the rampaging decibels of insecurity in the next four years. There is this desire amongst Nigerians that the new National Assembly should hit the ground running and work very hard to recover the lost ground of the last four years when a hostile National Assembly saw its mandate from frustrating the policies and programmes of the government.
The new National Assembly needs to do two critical things that will speed up the progress of the country. The first is to cut down on the huge emoluments of the members of the National Assembly and the second is to legislate into being a Special Court on Corruption to fast track the Buhari regime’s frenzied war against corruption. On the first, the new National Assembly must see the folly in continuing the regime where members of the legislature go home with humongous salaries and allowances in a country with such scarce means as Nigeria. There is a huge expectation that this NASS will shorn the indifference of past National Assemblies and cut down drastically on the huge overheads that oil a huge corruption complex in the National Assembly. Nigerians expect the present NASS to re-visit the huge salaries and allowances that members of NASS take home each month and follow best practices in legislative remunerations in other parts of the world so as to free the huge amount NASS members take home to attend to many pressing problems afflicting Nigeria. Also, the controversial bogey of constituency projects should be scraped and the executives allowed to implement projects as the needs of the nation dictate.
Given the commitment of the Buhari government to arrest the rampaging ennui of corruption and its debilitating effect on governance in Nigeria, it is not too tall an expectation that the new National Assembly should work with the executive to draft and pass a bill for the setting up of a special court on corruption, which will give the fight against corruption the needed judicial teeth to achieve better results. The monumental filth in the judiciary would also be addressed by this court, which is expected to be peopled by men and women of impeccable character for the purpose of fumigating the institutional corruption that has eaten into the inner fabrics of the Nigerian society and which constitutes serious impediments to the commendable efforts of the Buhari government to tame this monster. A special court on corruption will ensure that the regular courts are freed of the burdens of adjudicating on corruption cases, which itself, has made the war of corruption so unwinnable. Because corruption threatens the growth and development of the country, the new National Assembly should see the need to firm up the present government’s huge effort to tame the monster with this institutional backup so that the war will survive the regime when it finishes its tenure in 2023.
It is unarguable that should the new NASS follow this simple template, it would succeed in re-investing the confidence of the Nigerian people in the National Assembly, as this confidence is at its lowest possible rungs at present given the entrenched misdemeanors of the National Assembly. Again, if the new NASS follows this template, it will not only bolster governance and delivery but would have entrenched indelible imprimaturs in the art of legislating, which had suffered serious gashes over the past years in Nigeria.

target=_blank>Atiku To Present 400 Witnesses To Tribunal In 14 Days To Prove Buhari Didn’t Win Presidential Election
Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the 2019 general elections has told the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on Monday that he and his party had proposed to call 400 witnesses to prove their petition challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari, and his All Progressives Congress, at the February 23 poll.
The process is expected to last 14 days.
The Justice Mohammed Garba-led five-man tribunal said the 14 days period is prescribed under paragraph 16(3) of the First Schedule to the Electoral Act.
In response, the lead counsel for the petitioners, Dr. Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), said as much as his clients had proposed 400 witnesses, they “intend to call as many witnesses as possible within the prescribed time.”
“What we have not agreed on yet is whether we will be given opportunity or isolate the preliminary objection from the main address.
“We are also not too sure on the length of time of cross-examination.”
Justice Garba said, the length of time for cross-examination “will be dependent on the circumstances and facts”, particularly the number of witnesses parties to the case intended to call.
He added, “But we shall set a template for cross-examination which will not be sacrosanct.
“Like I said it will be dependent on the circumstances.”
Uzoukwu later applied for a 30-minutes stand-down, to enable parties to the case to resolve on other issues that would arise during the substantive hearing of the petition.
The tribunal approved the application.

Why Parts Of Nigerian Airspace Is Unsafe – Airspace Agency
The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has attributed the creation of new routes to the reason some aspect of the country’s airspace remained unsafe for flying.
The agency, however, said concerted efforts were being made to improve the situation.
A statement by the General Manager, Public Affairs, NAMA, Mr. Khalid Emele, stated that the Managing Director of NAMA, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, stated this today in Lagos when he received the management of Ibom Air, led by erstwhile Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. George Uriesi.
According to the statement, Akinkuotu said although the last phase, which was the area control or upper airspace communication, may have a few challenges, but said it was due to the creation of new routes.
The statement said NAMA was making concerted efforts to address these challenges, one of which was the deployment of the Total VHF Coverage of Nigeria in 2010, which he said was limited by the architecture of eight VHF remote radio stations deployed then.
This was in apparent response to the claim by some pilots in the country that some aspects of the nation’s airspace was unsafe for flying.
Akinkuotu assured the flying public and pilots that the nation’s airspace was safe for seamless and economic air navigation.
He explained that the agency had taken drastic steps to tackle communication challenges especially in the upper airspace in the past couple of years, saying that significant progress was being made in that direction.
It would be recalled that the Chief Pilot of Med-View Airline had at the Aviation Round Table (ART) breakfast meeting in Lagos last week claimed that the airspace remained unsafe for flying.
According to him, pilots still fly blind in some parts of the airspace between Lagos and Abuja and Port Harcourt, saying that the radio communication in that axis was poor and irresponsible.
Akinkuotu declared that since he assumed duties over two years ago, he had seen to the upgrading of communication infrastructure in phases.
According to him, radio communication in the ground control, covering 65 nautical miles at the 32 air traffic control units in Nigerian airports was perfect and this was done under phase one of the project.
He added that the second phase, which was the tower control, also covering 65 nautical miles and critical for landing and takeoff, was equally working optimally in all the 32 airports in the country.
The third phase which he referred to as “approach communication,” covering up to 130 nautical miles, according to him, was working perfectly in all the 32 air traffic control units in the country.
Akinkuotu admitted that although the last phase, which was the Area Control or Upper Airspace Communication, may have a few challenges, but attributed this to the creation of new routes.
He explained that the agency was making concerted efforts to address these challenges, one of which was the deployment of the Total VHF Coverage of Nigeria in 2010, which he said was limited by the architecture of 8 VHF remote radio stations deployed then.
He added that the agency had just taken delivery of Extended Range VHF radio systems to replace old the radios in 8 remote sites, while six more are to be added, making them 14 in number.
